CCAA joins Abuse-Free Sport

CCAA joins Abuse-Free Sport

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement to join Abuse-Free Sport, the independent program to prevent and address maltreatment in sport.

“The CCAA is proud to be joining many others in the Canadian sports community in their support of Abuse-Free Sport and the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport,” said Vince Amato, CCAA President. “Sport needs to provide an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment to all participants and the CCAA continues to do so by signing the UCCMS and aligning with Abuse-Free Sport.”

The Association has fully adopted the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) which it must do before it can become part of the Abuse-Free Sport program.

“The CCAA recognizes that safe sport is everyone’s responsibility, and we are fully committed to doing our part to support a growing national movement that is changing the culture of sport in this country,” said Sandra Murray-MacDonell, CCAA CEO. “As part of that commitment, we’re pleased to sign on to Abuse-Free Sport and have the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner (OSIC) administer safe sport complaints of the Board National Convenors and staff – it’s an important step forward for everyone involved in collegiate sport.”

In addition to the adoption of the UCCMS, the Board has made the required policy changes to ensure all Association Participants during CCAA programs, activities and events have access to an Independent Third-party complaints process.
