2023 CCAA AGM Highlights

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Niagara Falls, ON, from June 12-15. The four days of meetings and professional development officially wrapped up the 2022-23 season.

Here are highlights from the AGM:

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Professional Development sessions for delegates in attendance included:

  • Hosting Championships: Requirements & Best Practices
  • Attending Championships: Expectations & Responsibilities
  • Applying a Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (REDI) Lens to Collegiate Athletics

NEW BOARD MEMBER

  • VP Marketing: Bob Murray, Prairie College (ACAC)

NEW CONVENORS

  • Men’s Volleyball: Matthew Schnarr, Conestoga College (OCAA)
  • Badminton: Andrew Harding, Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, (ACAA)

HONOURED

  • Ray Sarkis was honoured for his lengthy tenure as CCAA Men’s Volleyball Convenor. Full story here.
  • CEO Sandra Murray-MacDonell was honoured for 30 years of service with the CCAA. Full story here.
  • Ray Chateau (CCAA VP Marketing) and Michael Kopinak (CCAA Badminton Convenor) were also honoured.

NEW MEMBERS

The CCAA welcomed two new member institutions from the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ):

  • Cégep Heritage in Gatineau, QC. The Hurricanes will compete in Cross-Country Running
  • Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Rouyn-Noranda, QC. The Astrelles-Gaillards will compete in Cross-Country Running.

MEMBER AWARDS

  • Danielle Hyde of Vancouver Island University (PACWEST) was named 2023 CCAA Athletic Director of the Year. Full story here.
  • Lethbridge College (ACAC) earned the 2023 CCAA Innovation Award with its “We are Aikowania” video and facility reconciliation initiative. Full story here.
  • For the second straight season, Providence University College (MCAC) earned the CCAA Community Service Award for its ‘Pilot Initiative’ program. Full story here.

HALL OF FAME

New members from the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) were inducted into the CCAA Hall of Fame:

2024 AGM

The CCAA will celebrate its 50th Anniversary at the 2024 CCAA AGM in Ottawa, ON. The AGM will take place June 10-13, 2024.
