2022-23 CCAA Female Apprentices

2022-23 CCAA Female Apprentices

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce its participants for the 18th season of the Female Apprentice Coach Program (FACP).

The FACP, which is funded by Sport Canada, is designed to identify and support female graduating student-athletes who demonstrate the desire and skills for coaching by providing them opportunities to grow through the coaching experience in CCAA varsity sports.

Six new female apprentices will take part in the program during the 2022-23 season:

FACP funding, for the second straight season, will be extended over a two-year period to assist with the retention and development of Apprentice coaches.

“Retaining young female coaches is key to further developing their skills and training to be employable by institutions in the future,” said Sandra Murray-MacDonell, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CCAA. “Extending funding over a greater timeframe has been extremely promising.”

Seven out of eight Year 2 apprentices who participated in the program last season will be on the coaching staff for their institution in 2022-23.

The following apprentices will be reunited with their mentors from the 2021-22 season for a second year:

The FACP will once again be augmented by ‘Leadership Development’, a program which is led by former CCAA student-athlete Danielle Cyr, Head Coach of the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics Women’s Soccer team in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA). Cyr is also a Researcher and advocate of sport for social and leadership development.

“The Leadership development sessions are instrumental for increasing knowledge for female apprentice coaches to effectively lead and see themselves as head coaches,” said Murray-MacDonell. “Additionally, there’s the added value of establishing a strong supporting network of female apprentice coaches.”

The goal of the FACP is to increase access for young women to coach at a post-secondary competitive level, provide high level quality coaching mentorship, and support their professional development to facilitate their continued pursuit of coaching.
