The CCAA celebrates 50 years

The CCAA celebrates 50 years

Cornwall, Ontario, May 1 - The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) is thrilled to mark its 50th anniversary, a testament to its enduring commitment to collegiate sports development and competition across Canada.

Founded in 1974, the CCAA emerged from the collective efforts of regional conferences eager to provide a platform for collegiate athletes to compete at a national level. Over the past five decades, the association has been pivotal in advancing collegiate athletics and providing equal opportunities for student-athletes nationwide.

The direct beneficiaries of the CCAA over the last 50 years are the tens of thousands of student-athletes who have participated at national championships, but the impacts can be felt in each community that has hosted a National Championship says Sandra Murray-MacDonell, CEO of the CCAA,  The collective effort on the field and court can also be seen around the board and decision-making table which has cultivated hundreds of exceptional leaders that have fostered the growth and continual evolution of the Association over the last 50 years.

To celebrate this milestone anniversary, the CCAA has planned several special events and initiatives throughout the year.  The official launch of the 50th anniversary will be at the 2024 CCAA Annual Members Meetings, punctuated by a gala event at the National Arts Center on June 11th.

During the Gala evening Dr Peter Fraser and Clare Gillespie, two former Executive Directors will be inducted into the CCAA Hall
of Fame as builders, recognizing their significant contributions to the growth and success of the association.  In addition, sport supremacy will be honoured as the top member institutions in each sport, are recognized for their achievements and dedication to excellence.

The CCAA will be celebrating its rich history throughout the year over social media so follow along on Facebook and Instagram for exciting tidbits from the past and updates on anniversary celebrations.

As the CCAA reflects on its rich history and looks ahead to the future, the association remains dedicated to providing opportunities for young athletes to excel both on and off the field of play.
