2023-24 CCAA Female Apprentices

2023-24 CCAA Female Apprentices

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce its participants for the 19th  season of the Female Apprentice Coach Program (FACP).

The FACP, which is funded by Sport Canada, is designed to identify and support female graduating student-athletes who demonstrate the desire and skills for coaching by providing them opportunities to grow through the coaching experience in CCAA varsity sports.

Each of the CCAA’s six member conferences will be represented this year.

“The FACP continues to develop female coaches who will receive NCCP training and hands-on experience from certified and seasoned Mentors,” said Sandra Murray-MacDonell, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CCAA. “The CCAA is excited about this year’s new recruits and returning apprentices, who are bringing a wealth of experience to their varsity program in the realm of coaching.”

A total of 13 first-year female apprentices will take part in the program during the 2023-24 season:

The FACP continues to be augmented by ‘Leadership Development’, a program which is led by former CCAA student-athlete Danielle Cyr, Head Coach of the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics Women’s Soccer team in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA).

Rebecca Weibe from Columbia Bible College in the Pacific Western Athletic Assocation (PACWEST) will assist Cyr by facilitating development sessions on the West Coast.

“The leadership development component of the FACP continues to be a rewarding experience for all participants,” said MacDonell. “The program provides evidence-based tools, knowledge, and a network of support to aid apprentices in their continued coaching development; the addition of a second facilitator this season will provide further access for participants in the program.”
