Vanier Cheetahs are CCAA Women's Soccer Champions

Gold Medal Match: Vanier Cheetahs 3, Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy 0

The Vanier Cheetahs defeated the Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy in the gold medal match Saturday afternoon in Vaughan, Ontario, capturing the program’s first CCAA national championship title.

The Cheetahs joined the RSEQ division one ranks this season, getting their redemption over the defending national champions after losing the conference championship a few weeks prior.

In the 16th minute the Cheetahs got one on the board with a perfectly placed through ball from Laurie-Anne Moise to a streaking, Latifah Abdu, who beat Saint-Foy keeper Charline Boutin one-on-one and nailed it into the goal.

Less than 20 minutes later, a long ball from Vanier’s Sofia Beerworth into the Dynamiques area connected with Abdu, who flicked to a completely unmarked Moise for a beautiful goal to double the Cheetah’s lead.

Ste-Foy began to press in the second half, needing to get on the board to save their championship hopes but Vanier’s quick attack led to another goal in the 74th minute. Asma Merzougui’s quick strike from beyond the 18-yard box left Boutin no chance of making a save.

The Vanier Cheetahs cruised from there to earn the program’s first CCAA national championship – the seventh consecutive title for the RSEQ conference.

The 4imprint Players of the Match were Shelbie Rae from Vanier and La-Jeanne Fortier from Ste-Foy.

Laurie-Anne Moise finished with a goal and three assists in three matches for Vanier and was named the championship’s most valuable player. Teammates Malie Allard, Bianca Stevens Cardins, Aristilde Alma, and Gabrielle Cote were named to the all-tournament team.

Rosalie Daigle and Anglique Dumas were named to the all-tournament for Ste-Foy.

Bronze Medal Match: SAIT Trojans 3, Fanshawe Falcons 1

The SAIT Trojans defeated the Fanshawe Falcons in the bronze medal game to begin day four of the championship tournament, 3-1.

The Alberta champions squared off against the three-time defending Ontario champions, and it was the Falcons who jumped out to an early lead. In just the second minute of the match, a give-and-go from Lauryn Soares set up a Jylia Boyd banger, unleashing a strike over SAIT’s keeper Erin Mergen.

SAIT retaliated in the 29th minute with Jordynn McPherson’s equalizer. She buried a bullet from outside the right area of the Falcons box and crossed it diagonally over keeper Breanna Carreiro, finding the top corner of the net.

After the break, SAIT took the lead with a corner by McPherson that found the head of Kenzie Georgsen, who found the bottom right corner of the net.

The Trojans took advantage of a poor clearance from the Falcons in the 60th minute, as Jordynn McPherson intercepted the pass and found Jade Metz who was able to cross it past Carreiro for SAIT’s third goal of the match.

The SAIT Trojans ended their 19-year national medal drought, capturing the 2021 CCAA bronze medal.

Jaime McPherson and Mykayla Rigio were named to the all-tournament team, while Aysia King was named to the team from Fanshawe.

The 4imprint Players of the Game were Jordynn McPherson from SAIT and Madilyn Michienzie from Fanshawe.
