Hawks to welcome CCAA’s best in Women’s Soccer

Humber College will host the 2021 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship.

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) institution will host the event Nov. 10-13, 2021, in Etobicoke, ON.

Ray Chateau, Director of Athletics at Humber, will be the Tournament Chair.

“Over the years we have been recognized for our outstanding hospitality and gifting and we will continue this tradition,” said Chateau. “Keeping the challenges created by the pandemic in mind, it is our intention to deliver an exceptional student athlete experience that complies with provincial, national and local public health guidelines and directives.”

CCAA Championship games will be held at the Ontario Soccer Centre, which features a FIFA 2-star certified field and exceptional amenities.

The eight-team tournament will feature six conference champions, including the debut of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC). The MCAC champion will be joined by the top team from the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST), Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), OCAA, Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA). The Hawks, who automatically qualify as hosts, and a wildcard team from RSEQ, will round out the field.

The Hawks hosted the 2009 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship.

Humber, one of the CCAA’s most decorated institutions, has never won a title in Women’s Soccer. The Hawks earned bronze medals in 2010, 2008 and 2000.

Humber last hosted a CCAA event in 2013, when it welcomed the top collegiate Cross-Country Running in Canada. The Hawks are next slated to host the 2022 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship next March.

The last CCAA Women’s Soccer Championship was hosted in 2019 by Concordia University of Edmonton. The RSEQ continued to dominate, capturing its sixth consecutive CCAA title as the Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy defeated the VIU Mariners (PACWEST) 3-0 in the gold medal game. The Champlain Saint Lambert Cavaliers (RSEQ) defeated the Fanshawe Falcons (OCAA) 1-0 to earn the bronze medal.
