CCAA Women's Soccer: Day 2 Recap

Match 8: Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy 3, Humber Hawks 0

Playing the host squad in front of the home crowd, Sainte-Foy blanked the Humber Hawks to set up an all-Quebec championship final.

Ste-Foy got on the board in the 34th minute when a corner kick from Aurlie Munger found the head of Catherine Simard.

Searching for the equalizer before the break, Humber was unable to beat keeper Charline Boutin.

In the 54th minute, the Dynamiques added two more tallies, getting goals from Rosalie Daigle and Jordane Pinette.

In two matches, Charline Boutin has yet to surrender a goal.

The 4imprint Players of the Match were Rosalie Daigle from Ste-Foy and Hayley Lewis from the Humber.

Match 7: *Vanier Cheetahs 0, Capilano Blues 0 (*Vanier wins PKs 5-4)

In what turned out to be an all-time classic for women’s soccer, Vanier and Capilano dealt blow-after-blow, looking to book a spot in the gold medal match.

The Cheetahs put pressure on the Blues all match long, putting 14 shots on net but were unable to find the back of the net.

As time in regulation neared an end, CCAA Player of the Year Latifah Abdu found herself alone in the box, put Alexa Gazzola made a diving save for the Blues to send the match to a penalty shootout.

The Cheetahs were automatic from the spot, burying all five shots in the shootout. Keeper Bianca Stevens-Cardin made one save and it was all Vanier needed to earn a gold medal spot in their first season.

The 4imprint Players of the Match were Bianca Stevens-Cardin of Vanier and Julia Peyton of Capilano.

Match 6: SAIT Trojans 2, Les Rouges de Saint-Boniface 0

Two first-half tallies were all SAIT needed to advance at the national tournament, beating Saint-Boniface, 2-0.

In the 12th minute, SAIT forced a turnover, displaying beautiful technical skill in the offensive zone. A quick pass from Jaime McPherson to Jordynn McPherson got the Trojans on the board, beating les Rouges keeper on the right side.

Less than 15 minutes later, All-Canadian Meaghan Wiebe found Emma Ward at the top of the 18-yard box. Ward unleashed a rocket into the top of the corner to extend the Trojans lead.

Erin Mergen made four saves in net for the Trojans, earning the clean sheet and helping SAIT secure a spot in the bronze semifinal round.

Match 5: Fanshawe Falcons 2, Holland Hurricanes 0

Looking to keep their medal hopes alive, the Fanshawe Falcons blanked the Holland Hurricanes, 2-0. The Falcons will now compete in the bronze semifinal Friday evening.

The Falcons got on the board in the 40th minute when a through ball from Jylia Boyd sprung Aysia King past the Holland defence, beating the keeper for her first tally of the tournament.

Late in the second half, Holland began to press looking for the equalizer and the Falcons were able to take advantage. A clearing by keeper Breanne Carreiro sprung the OCAA scoring champion past the Holland defence, and Kalyla McQueen scored her second tally of the tournament to seal the victory.

The 4imprint Players of the Match were Breanne Carreiro from Fanshawe and Helena Vos from Holland.
