The opening game of the 2016 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer National Championship featured the defending CCAA Champion Humber Hawks (OCAA) against the ACAC's Wild Card SAIT Trojans.
Humber's Marcos Nunes, awarded the 2016 CCAA Men's Player of the Year less than 14 hours prior at the CCAA banquet, scored on a penalty kick at 33 minutes of the first half beating Trojan goalie Kyle Greenley. Second half goals by Michael Aigbokie and Jordan Piccinin rounded out scoring and secured the win for the Hawks.

Algonquin Thunder - 2 vs. Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy - 1
The second game of the preliminary rounds featured the 2015 CCAA Men's Soccer bronze medalist Algonquin Thunder (OCAA) against the Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy (RSEQ).
The Dynamiques opened the scoring with a goal by Youssef El-Yousfi-Laflamme at the 29 minute mark but the Thunder's Jemuel Paul tied things up fifteen minutes into the second half. Algonquin's Ali Albadry scored the go ahead goal at the 67 minute mark, which was the deciding goal of the match.

Capilano Blues - 4 vs. Holland Hurricanes - 0
The third game of preliminary rounds featured the 2015 CCAA Men's Soccer silver medalist Capilano Blues (PACWEST) against the Holland Hurricanes (ACAA). The Blues met the Hurricanes in last year's CCAA Championship quarterfinals in Saint Lambert Quebec winning 3-2.
In this match, the Blues led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Kristian Yli-Hietanen (17 minutes) and Nicolas Morello (extra time) on a penalty kick. Edris Najm and Christian Bita added to the Blues' total with goals at the 60 minute and 88 minute marks.
Hurricanes Player of the Game: Theo Ngezahayo
Keyano Huskies - 3 vs. Douglas Royals - 2
The final game of opening day featured the host Keyano College Huskies (ACAC) against the Douglas Royals (PACWEST).
The Royals opened the scoring as fleet-footed Issac Keys out sprinted the defensed to pass a low ball to teammate Max Williams for a tap in goal. The Huskies responded at the 43 minute mark on a Pedro Bianchi penalty kick to send the teams into the locker room tied 1-1.
Bianchi, a 5th year student/athlete, made it 2-1 Huskies at 54:00 with several hundred fans in attendance celebrating. Ayman Hassen made it 3-1 at 79 minutes on a two-on-one scenario.
Race Williams scored in extra time for the Royals but the Huskies held on for the win.
