
Day Two Recap of the CCAA Men's Basketball Championship

GAME 5 During the second day of the CCAA Championship, the Seawolves from UNBSJ faced the Keyano Huskies for the first game of the Bronze Quarter Final. In the first quarter, the Huskies started off the game with two three-pointers, but the Seawolves ended up taking the lead. The Huskies caught up to their opponent with twenty seconds left on the clock and the quarter ended with a 20-20 tie. By the end of the second quarter, the Seawolves gained the lead back with a score of 36-34. Keyano rebounded in the third quarter and quickly took the lead and kept it for the rest of the quarter. Despite the Seawolves scoring six points in the last three minutes of the quarter, the Huskies finished it with 50-47. The final quarter of the game was intense and the Seawolves fought hard to regain the lead. The quarter ended with both teams in back to back foul shots that led to a 68-68 tie in the last seconds of the game, resulting in five minutes of overtime. Overtime play saw multiple lead changes between the teams, as tensions rose and both teams made several foul shots as the play became more aggressive. In the end, the Seawolves won the game 76-75. The player of the game for the Keyano Huskies was #5 Omeechi Williams and the player of the game for the UNBSJ Seawolves was #9 Aj Nash. The Huskies go on to play in the 7 versus 8 Match at 14:00 on Friday, March 14th against the Capilano Blues, and the Seawolves goes on to fight in the Bronze Semi-Final Match, March 14th at 19:00. |

GAME 6 During the second day of the CCAA Championship, the Capilano Blues and Briercrest Clippers faced each other in game two of the Bronze Quarter Finals. Both teams were evenly matched in strength and skill, constantly tying, until a two-pointer layup from #12 Kash Lang gave the Capilano Blues the 18-16 lead with only thirty seconds left of the first quarter. Briercrest rebounded in the second quarter with a strong offensive, taking a 35-31 lead and continued to dominate the court in the third quarter with a 52-44 lead. After a slow start in the final quarter, Capilano bounced back with a series of aggressive plays that narrowed the point gap between the teams. The tension grew as the Capilano Blues almost tied after three-point jump shots from #12 Kash Lang and #8 Arshya Ghasemi. In the last minutes of the game, the lead changed back and forth between the teams but the Clippers had the point advantage and maintained the lead, closing the game 77-69. The player of the game for the Capilano Blues was #6 Ahmad Athman and #10 Carter Waind was the player of the game for the Briercrest Clippers. The Blues go on to play in the Placement Match at 14:00 on Friday, March 14th against the Keyano Huskies, and the Clippers play in the the Bronze Semi-Final Match at 17:00. |

GAME 7 The Dynamiques de Brébeuf and Durham Lords fought for a position in the Championship Final during Match 7 of the Semi-Finals. While the Dynamiques of Brébeuf had the lead for half of the first quarter, the Durham Lords managed to gain a 13-10 lead thanks to layups from #24 Rudy Fakih and from #13 Zach Morris in under thirty seconds. Brébeuf countered with an aggressive offensive game in the second quarter and took the lead, ending the first half of the game 36-30. While both teams tied twice in the third quarter, the Durham Lords ended up with a 60-59 lead going into the fourth quarter. The last quarter was tense as both teams, especially Durham, attempted to make multiple shots in the paint from rebounds. Even with consecutive shots from Brébeuf’s #11 Édouard Gauthier, the Durham Lords won the game 85-82. The player of the game for the Dynamiques de Brébeuf was #11 Édouard Gauthier and for the Durham Lords it was #24 Rudy Fakih The Durham Lords go on to play in the Championship Finals on Saturday, March 15th at 19:30, will the Dynamiques de Brébeuf will play the Briarcrest Clippers in the the Bronze Semi-Final Match game on Friday, March 14th at 17:00. |

GAME 8 The Vanier Cheetahs and the Humber Hawks faced off in game two of the Semi-Finals in hopes for a shot at the Championship title. The crowd was full of energy even before the game began. In the first quarter, Vanier took the lead and maintained it, finishing the quarter 16-11. The Hawks struggled to gain an edge in the first half of the second quarter as Vanier played a strong offensive game with two layups by Cheetah player #23 Randy Tshizanga. Humber began to rebound in the second half of the quarter, narrowing the gap with foul shots and a jump shot made by #5 Malik Grant. The Hawks were leading the quarter, but Vanier came back after calling a time out and managed to tie the second quarter score and finish the first half of the game 31-26. Despite a crowd-pleasing jump shot by Humber’s #4 Romeo Osas-Joshua, the Cheetahs’ #11 Mamadou Hady-Bah scored the team nine points and Vanier finished the third quarter 50-42. Things heated up in the final quarter when Humber tied the game, and the lead changed repeatedly. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as Humber gained the lead and Vanier tried to bounce back. The Humber Hawks kept the lead and won the game 69-63. Vanier’s player of the game was #23 Randy Tshizanga and Humber’s player of the game was #5 Malik Grant. The Vanier Cheetahs will play the UNBSJ Seawolves during the Bronze Semi-Final Match 11 game at 19:00 on Friday March 14th. The Humber Hawks go on to play the Durham Lords for Gold at 19:30 on Saturday, March 15th. |
