Gold Medal Game: Aigles d'Ahuntsic 1, Ch. Saint-Lambert Cavaliers 0

The Champlain Cavaliers progressed through their brackets to the 2022 CCAA Women’s Soccer National  Championship Gold Medal Game as did the #1 ranked team in the country, les Aigles d’Ahuntsic, once again setting up a battle between  two Quebec powerhouses for the national title.

Champlain got an early opportunity around the Ahuntsic goal but failed to convert.  The tide soon shifted as les Aigles imposed their game on the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers, however, dug deep and fended off the Ahuntsic opportunities, but failed to do so when an Ahuntsic corner fell to the feet of Alexie Bellerose, who made no mistake and buried her shot past the Cavaliers goalkeeper.

The Cavaliers managed to regroup and had a few opportunities from close range but squandered those chances as they could not finish. Ahuntsic tightened things up and showed composure and a willingness to put the Cavaliers back on their heels. It was too much for the Cavaliers to handle as they came up short and could not find the tying goal before the final whistle.

Sara Ricciardelli was named the 4-Imprint Player of the Game for the Cavaliers, while Alexie Bellerose was presented the honor for Ahuntsic.

Bronze Medal Game: VIU Mariners 1, Seneca Sting 0

VIU captured the Bronze Medal at the CCAA Women’s Soccer Nationals as they defeated Seneca College 1-0. The game saw action mostly in the midfield, with both teams unable to break through each other’s defensive lines.

After adjusting at the half, VIU pressed forward with an extra attacker up top and managed to capitalize in the 70th minute when #22, Jade Dillabough broke free and slipped a ball to the back of the Seneca goal.

VIU held on with some strong play from their 3 centre-backs and wing-backs thwarting away any Seneca attacks.

The 4-Imprint  Players of the Game were  Carley Uddenberg from Seneca and Jade Dillabough from VIU.

Match 12: Humber Hawks 2, Red Deer Queens 0

The fourth and final day of competition began under overcast and rainy conditions as the Humber Hawks from the OCAA went up against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens in 5/6 positioning game this morning.

After a slow start for both teams, the Hawks’ captain, Kaitlynn Russell, converted a penalty kick in the 41st minute to give Humber the lead. Later in the half, as a light rain persisted, Humber buried a long shot in the 68^th minute from #14, Hayley Lewis,  for their second goal and sealed the game for the win. 

The 4-Imprint Players of the Game were Sofia Quinteros from Red Deer and Remo Pelletier of the Humber Hawks.
