June 15, 2019 - Canada Basketball has announced the 19 athletes invited to the U19 Men’s National Team training camp. Vanier College's Karim Mane, a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian in 2019, is among the players selected.

Head Coach Dan Vanhooren (University of Calgary) will be joined by assistants Dave DeAveiro (McGill University), Chris Cheng (University of Windsor) and Nate Phillippe (York University).

Mane, the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) Player of the Year, led the Cheetahs to a perfect 16-0 record and first-overall finish in the conference. The second-year point guard was the top scorer for a balanced Cheetahs attack with 15.4 points per game. He also accumulated 6.9 rebounds per game.

He led Vanier to the 2019 CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship, hosted by Langara College in Langley, BC, as the Cheetahs completed a perfect season in Quebec with a thrilling 73-71 victory over the Nomades de Montmorency in the RSEQ Championship final

Mane has also represented Quebec with the U15 and U17 program teams.

Canada is preparing to compete at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019 in Heraklion, Greece (June 29-July 7). Last summer, the team earned a silver medal at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018 in St. Catharines, ON.

Canada is in Group B along with Australia, Latvia and Mali.

Canada earned a historic gold medal at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2017 in Cairo, Egypt.  The gold was Canada’s first in an international FIBA competition and their highest placement at the tournament since a fifth-place finish at the FIBA U19 World Championship 2015.  This will be Canada’s eleventh appearance at the event since the 1979 World Championship for Junior Men.

Prior to the training camp, Canada Basketball’s Men High Performance Program held an open tryout on June 8-9 for Canadian male athletes born January 1, 2000 or later.

Training camp will take place at Humber College – North from June 12-19 and is closed to the public.

Canada is currently ranked 2nd worldwide in the FIBA World Ranking Presented by NIKE.
