Corriveau earns CCAA Coach of Year honours

Kevin Corriveau of the St. Clair Saints has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf Coach of the Year.

Corriveau was honoured during the 2023 CCAA Golf National Championships, presented by PING and hosted by Cégep Champlain St. Lawrence in Quebec City.

“Coach Corriveau’s dedication and passion for collegiate golf has been evident this year both on and off the course,” said Bob Murray, CCAA VP Marketing. “He has coached an up-and-coming young team to not only success at the conference level, but his Saints golf program has been recognized in the national rankings.”

Corriveau led the St. Clair men’s team to a bronze medal and the women’s team to a second-place finish at the OCAA Championships.

For the men’s team, it marked a first Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Division I team medal since 2007. All five St. Clair men’s golfers placed in the Top 25 at the tournament.

The Saints enter play at this week’s CCAA Championships as the fifth ranked golf program in the CCAA.

Corriveau, who has been a PGA member for more than 25 years, has focused this season on his team’s course management and short game play. He is also a huge believer in team bonding and unity.

A CPGA Class A Golf Professional, Corriveau is a full-time faculty member at St. Clair College in the Sport & Recreation Management program. He also volunteers as an Academic Advisor for all St. Clair varsity athletes. He has also been a key member of host organizing committees for several provincial and national championships while at the OCAA institution.

In addition, Corriveau helps with Junior Golf Camps and Clinics throughout the summer in the Windsor area. He also recently became certified as a Golf Ontario Referee.

“Kevin is an outstanding coach and is very well respected in the community not just as a golf professional but as a person,” said Jay Shewfelt, CCAA Golf Convenor. “You would be hard pressed to find anyone that knows Kevin that has a bad thing to say about him.”

Tyler Leicht of the NAIT Ooks (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference) and Benoit Lemieux of the Boomerang d’André-Laurendeau (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) were also nominated for the award.

CCAA Coach of the Year recipients receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Award Ring Supplier of the CCAA.

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) enriches the academic experiences of student-athletes by providing leadership, programs and services that foster development through high-level competitive opportunities in intercollegiate sport.
