Humber to host CCAA Golf in 2024

Humber College will host the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships, presented by PING.

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) institution will host the four-round event from Oct. 14-18, 2024, in Etobicoke, ON.

RedCrest Golf Club will play host to the top collegiate golfers in the country. Opened in 2009, RedCrest is a par 71 championship golf course designed by Kevin Holmes. RedCrest offers the perfect balance between stunning scenery and challenging terrain.

The design at RedCrest stretches out to 6,600 yards and places a premium on controlling both trajectory and direction. Water is in play on 14 of the 18 holes, while hazards are strategic and plentiful. Greens are large and accepting while the overall course conditioning is meticulous.

“The CCAA is looking forward to heading to the GTA area and RedCrest Golf Club, which will be great challenge for the top collegiate golfers from across Canada,” said Jay Shewfelt, CCAA Golf Convenor. “Humber has a long and outstanding history of hosting multiple CCAA Championships and we know the student-athletes will be treated to a first-class experience on and off the course.”

Indeed, Humber has a rich history of hosting provincial, national and international events – including 11 CCAA Championships.

The Hawks recently hosted CCAA Women’s Soccer (2021), CCAA Men’s Basketball (2022) and CCAA Men’s Volleyball (2023), receiving outstanding feedback from participants.

With the OCAA up next on the CCAA Hosting Grid for Golf, the Hawks pounced on the opportunity.

“Our partnerships with various academic areas within the college will add to a fulfilling student-athlete experience,” said Ann Marie Vaughan, President, and CEO of Humber College. “The Golf Management students will align themselves with the event and will play a significant role in the hosting and presentation of the CCAA Championships.”

The Hawks have been a powerhouse in CCAA Golf since its inception in 2000. The Men’s program has medalled 17 times at Nationals, including 11 gold medals, while the Women’s program has earned 13 team medals, including six gold. In individual play, Humber has produced seven men’s and two women’s national champions, while wracking up 38 individual CCAA medals overall.

Ray Chateau, Director of Athletics at Humber, will serve as the Tournament Chair. Chateau is no stranger to CCAA Golf – the former Hawks’ head coach was inducted into the CCAA Hall of Fame (Coaches Category) this past June in Niagara Falls.

Humber College campuses are located on the treaty lands and traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit and homeland of Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples.

The 2023 CCAA Golf National Championships will be hosted by Cégep Champlain St. Lawrence of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) from Oct. 16-20.
