Durham to host CCAA’s top collegiate golfers

The Durham College Lords will host the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships, presented by PING.

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) institution will host the event Oct. 17-21, 2022, at the Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax, ON.

Ken Babcock, Director of Athletics at Durham, will be the Host Chairperson.

“The host committee is looking to capture the same excitement and organization displayed in past hosting efforts here at Durham College,” said Babcock. “We are very proud of the opportunity to be hosting our 16th national championship in our school history and a highly committed host committee is dedicated to making this prestigious event memorable for all.”

CCAA Championships rounds will be held at Deer Creek North, “The Jewel” of the Durham Region. The course is divided into three nines, each with their own unique challenges that test every golfer’s shot-making ability.

Length and accuracy are a must on this championship course, in combination with strategic thinking. The demanding design, premium conditioning and difficult greens of the North Course make it the site of choice for challenging tournaments.

Men’s and Women’s Golfers from the OCAA, Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) will compete in the four-day event.

The CCAA PING Skills Challenge will take place at various holes during the practice round.

On-course officials will be selected and provided by Golf Canada, which will once again play an important role in the success of the event.

“The CCAA is looking forward to Durham hosting the CCAA Golf Nationals this fall,” said Jay Shewfelt, CCAA Golf Convenor. “We are confident the Durham staff, under the leadership of Ken Babcock and Mike Duggan, will do an amazing job to make this an outstanding student-athlete experience as this will be the 5th time they have hosted this prestigious event.”

The Lords, who hosted this event in 2017, 2012, 2002 and 2001, last hosted the 2019 CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship in Oshawa, ON.
