CCAA Women’s Basketball Award Recipients

Yasmeen Smith of the Conestoga Condors is the 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.

In addition, Smith is one of 12 players who has been named 2023 CCAA Women’s Basketball All-Canadians. See the full list below.

The student-athletes were honoured at the 2023 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship, hosted by the Mohawk College in Hamilton, ON

“Yasmeen is a high performing student-athlete who had a standout year in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA),” said Colin March, OCAA Women’s Basketball Convenor. “She is a class act on and off the court and is an integral part of her team at Conestoga.”

Smith was the OCAA scoring champion during the regular season, averaging 22.3 points per game. She scored an OCAA-high 356 points while leading the conference with 149 field goals.

The fifth-year guard also led all players with 118 offensive rebounds, was third in total rebounds with 174 and fifth overall with 10.9 boards per game. She also hit double-digits in double-doubles with 10.

Smith led the Condors to an 8-8 record and fifth-place finish in the OCAA West Division.

“Yasmeen’s addition has elevated our Women’s Basketball program to new heights and her offensive prowess has allowed the program to compete and defeat some of the top programs this season in the OCAA,” said Matthew Schnarr, Manager, Varsity & Athletic Operations at Conestoga. “Yasmeen is influential on the boards where nightly she tends to lead the game in total rebounds taken down especially on the offensive end of the floor.”

The CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Year receives a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA.
