Aaron Schulha Named 2025 CCAA Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year
Aaron Schulha of Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year. Schulha, who has led the Kings since 2007-08, earns this national recognition after an exceptional season in which his team finished 18-1, securing first place in the ACAC South and the No. 1 ranking in the CCAA.
A strong developer of talent, Schulha has helped over 22 players advance to USPORTS programs, with at least one graduating player set to compete professionally next season. His current roster features several players at or near the top of the ACAC leaderboards. CCAA National Men’s Volleyball Convenor Raymond Sarkis said “From motivating athletes to fostering teamwork, leadership, and building one of the best collegiate programs in the country. Aaron Schulla has done it all and is very worthy of the recognition as the CCAA men's volleyball Coach of the Year.” Beyond the court, Schulha is committed to holistic athlete development. He emphasizes academic accountability, requiring student-athletes to submit progress reports twice a year, and collaborates with RDP’s strength and conditioning staff, athletic therapists, and sport psychology professionals to ensure his team is prepared in every aspect. His players are also engaged in community initiatives, such as the Terry Fox Run, coaching club and school volleyball teams, and the RDP Bleed Green Challenge. “Aaron is truly a professional in his approach to coaching volleyball and continues to produce outstanding results both on the court and in the classroom. He recruits skilled athletes and individuals with outstanding character and academic success,” said Randy Stewart. Schulha also plays a vital role in volleyball development outside of RDP, coaching his son’s U14 club team, working with Team Alberta ID camps, and leading RDP’s summer volleyball camps to inspire the next generation of Central Alberta athletes. The CCAA Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year receives a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA. |
