The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) proud to announce the upcoming in Kevin Hanson into the CCAA Hall of Fame, recognizing his remarkable contributions to collegiate basketball and a legacy of excellence, consistency, and championship success.
The CCAA Hall of Fame honours the remarkable achievements of individuals who have significantly contributed to Canadian collegiate athletics. The coach category celebrates those whose leadership, mentorship, and competitive excellence have elevated collegiate sport. These coaches have guided and inspired student-athletes to succeed on and off the field of play, leaving a profound and enduring impact on their teams, their institutions, and the broader CCAA community. Hanson’s coaching career spanned nine dominant seasons, beginning at Vancouver Community College (Langara Campus) and continuing with Langara College from 1991 to 2000. During that era, he established Langara as one of the premier collegiate basketball programs in Canada. His teams made seven appearances at the CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship, earning five national medals. From the start, Hanson’s teams were competitive on the national stage. In his first season, Langara claimed silver at the 1991-92 championship, setting the tone for a legacy of success. They captured another silver in 1994-95, followed by a bronze in 1996-97. Hanson’s ability to guide his teams to peak performance year after year culminated in a historic run of success, including two CCAA National Championships in 1998 and 1999. In recognition of his leadership and strategic excellence, Hanson was a three-time CCAA Coach of the Year nominee and was honoured with the national award in 1993-94 and again in 1998-99. Under his guidance, eight players were named CCAA All-Canadians, and two earned the prestigious title of CCAA National Player of the Year, further demonstrating the strength of the program and the culture of excellence Hanson fostered. His ability to develop talent and cultivate winning teams made a lasting impact not only on Langara’s basketball program but on the broader collegiate sports community. Hanson’s teams were known for their discipline, passion, and relentless drive, reflecting his leadership on and off the court. Kevin Hanson’s induction into the CCAA Hall of Fame celebrates a coaching career that helped shape an era of CCAA basketball dominance. His legacy continues to inspire coaches and athletes alike. The CCAA Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place June 17th in Kelowna, British Columbia. |
