DURHAM TO HOST 2025 CCAA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) has announced that Durham College will host the 2025 CCAA National Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Canada’s best collegiate volleyball teams will gather in the Durham Region with the competition taking place from March 5-8, 2025.

“I have confidence that Durham will host a fabulous national championship next year,” said women’s volleyball convenor Beth Clark. “With their past experience hosting, competitive women’s volleyball program and aim for community involvement and inclusion, it’s sure to be a great experience for all.”

No stranger to hosting the big stage, this will be the 16th time that Durham College will host a national championship. Durham has previously hosted CCAA championships in women’s volleyball (1990), men’s volleyball (1990, 2003), women’s soccer (1999), men’s soccer (1999, 2019), golf (2001, 2002, 2012, 2017, 2022), men’s basketball (2011), as well as a CCSA national championship for softball in 2015 and NCBC national championships for baseball in 2016 and 2017.

“We are thrilled to have been selected as the host of the CCAA women’s volleyball national championship in 2025,” said Scott Dennis, Director, Athletics & Recreation. “The Durham Region is a hotbed for volleyball and we're excited to showcase our passion for the game. Our volleyball program has a history of success, and we look forward to competing against the best teams from across the country.”

The home of the Durham Lords varsity volleyball and basketball programs, the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre (CRWC), will be the host site for the event. The double-gymnasium continues to lead the pack when it comes to high-performance facilities within the CCAA.

Durham has boasted an incredibly competitive women’s volleyball program over the last four decades, with 15 OCAA medals and a CCAA medal. The program has produced 10 CCAA All-Canadians and effective coaches that have won a combined 12 OCAA Coach of the Year awards.

Over the last five seasons in particular, the Lords have recorded a combined 75-5 record in regular season play and have finished no lower than fourth at the OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship in that timeframe.

In addition to the Lords, who earn an automatic qualification spot, the national championship will feature the best of the best from the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST), ACAC, Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC), Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA).

Before handing off the torch, Red Deer Polytechnic is soon to host the 2024 edition of the championship in Alberta from March 6-9.
