CCAA Women's Soccer: Quarter-finals Recap

The 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Soccer National Championship began on Wednesday in Summerside, Prince Edward Island with four quarter-final matches taking place at the Credit Union Place.

MATCH 1: Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers 6, Brandon Bobcats 0

The RSEQ champions from Saint-Lambert, Quebec were in top-form in their quarter-final matchup on Wednesday versus the Brandon University Bobcats, the champions from the MCAC.

A hat-trick from Victoria Dupont with first-half goals in the 18', 22' and 23' powered the Cavaliers to the early lead.  They would score additional goals in the 34' (Brianna Pinazza), 39' (Maïka Sanesac) and 42' (Emilie Grondines) to enter the half with the 6-0 lead.

Although no goals were scored in the second, the Cavaliers used the lead to rest starters, and allowed their bench to gain valuable experience on the national stage.

The 4Imprint Players of the Match were Victoria Dupont, from the Cavaliers and Josie Black, from the Bobcats.

With the win, the Cavaliers advance to the National semi-finals at 3pm on Thursday, while the Bobcats will play in the bronze quarter-final at 10am on Thursday.

MATCH 2: Seneca Sting 2, UKC Blue Devils 0

The Seneca Sting, the OCAA champions from North York, Ontario, used a strong second half to earn the win over the UKC Blue Devils on Wednesday in National quarter-final action.

A highly competitive match entered the half-time break in a scoreless tie.

The Sting took the lead in the 64' when Faith Metcalfe-Simiana found the back of the net, before Jessica Shears jumped on a loose ball in the 86' and doubled their lead to 2-0.

After an even first half, Seneca found their groove in the second half, controlling the play as UKC struggled to create scoring chances.

The 4Imprint Players of the Match were Faith Metcalfe-Simiana, from Seneca, and Kennedy MacKill, from UKC.

The Sting will now play at 3pm in the National semi-finals on Thursday, while UKC plays at 10am in the bronze quarter-final.

MATCH 3: Holland Hurricanes 4, Douglas Royals 1

The host-Holland Hurricanes, the ACAA Champions, took advantage of a strong first-half as they opened the scoring in the 28' when Emily Lepine found the back of the net after winning a footrace with a Douglas defender.

Holland College would use the wind to their advantage throughout the first half, when Kristyn Taylor scored in the 39' and 42' to give the Hurricanes the 3-0 lead entering the half.

Douglas was determined to bounce back early in the second half, when Pak Tung Tsang scored in the 55', as the Royals applied the pressure to the Hurricanes.

Holland College would bounce back in the 74' however, squashing the Royals momentum when Lepine scored her second of the match, powering Holland College to the 4-1 win.

The 4Imprint Players of the Match were Emily Lepine, from Holland, and Pak Tung Tsang, for Douglas.

The Hurricanes advance to the semi-finals at 5:30pm on Thursday, while Douglas will play in the bronze quarter-finals at 12:30pm on Thursday.

MATCH 4: Cégep de Sainte-Foy Dynamiques 4, SAIT Trojans 0

On a cold, blustery night in Summerside, with snow in the air, the Dynamiques displayed why they are one of the top teams in Canada. A flurry of goals in the first half propelled them to the victory.

The RSEQ runners-up, found the back of the net in the 20' when Juliette Huot scored, before SAIT surrendered an own-goal in the 25', with the third marker scored by Chloé Chouinard in the 28', giving Sainte-Foy the 3-0 lead entering the half.

They were quick out of the break, scoring in the 48' when Marie-Soleil Nolet contributed, as the Dynamiques would cruise to the 4-0 victory.

The 4Imprint Players of the Match were Jade Morissette, from Sainte-Foy, and Kaylin Bensler, from SAIT.

With the win, Sainte-Foy will play in the semi-finals at 5:30pm on Thursday, while SAIT plays in the bronze quarter-finals at 12:30pm.
