June 14, 2016 – The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association held its annual general meeting in Toronto, ON, from June 6-10. Here are some of the highlights from the conference:
Hall of Fame
The CCAA welcomed 10 new members from the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association into its Hall of Fame. Peter Rylander (Niagara), Diana Drury (St. Lawrence) and Fred Wannamaker (Sheridan) were honoured in the Builder category. Paul Reader (Sheridan), Frank & Rozika Sulatycki (Seneca) and Mike Katz (Humber) were inducted in the Coach category, while Vito Frijia (Fanshawe), Marcy Skribe (Seneca/Durham), Avery Brevett (Seneca) and Adam Morandini (Humber) were added in the Athlete category. Honoured
The CCAA honoured Cori Andrichuk (College of the Rockies), who served as VP Finance and Administration for four seasons (2012-16). The Association also said goodbye to a pair of convenors. Albert Roche (Holland College) was the CCAA Golf Convenor for the past six seasons (2010-16), while Thom Gillespie (Olds College) served as Women's Basketball Convenor last season.
Championship Hosts
• Durham College (OCAA) was awarded the 2017 PING CCAA Golf National Championships
• Vancouver Island University (PACWEST) was awarded the 2017 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship
• Dalhousie Agricultural Campus and the University of King's College (ACAA) were jointly awarded the 2017 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship
• Collège Lionel-Groulx (RSEQ) was awarded the 2017 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships
CCAA Member Awards
• Centennial College (OCAA) won the Community Service award for the "Beyond the Rim" program
• Keyano College (ACAC) won the Innovation award for their Online Broadcast Project in collaboration with Fort McMurray Composite High School
• Linda Stapleton of Seneca College won the Athletic Director of the Year Award
• St. Thomas University of the ACAA won the Marketing Incentive Program Elite award
2017 AGM
The 2017 annual general meeting will be held in British Columbia. The PACWEST will host the conference June 5-9, 2017.
The CCAA would like to thank Doug Gellatly, Jim Bialek (Humber College) and the entire OCAA team for their hospitality in Toronto.
