TORONTO/CORNWALL, Ont. (CIS/CCAA) – Canadian Interuniversity Sport and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association are pleased to announce the nation's two representatives heading to the 13th International University Sports Federation (FISU) Forum next month.
Jean-Pierre Hamel and Joel Mrak, athletic directors at Université du Quebec à Montréal (UQAM) and Concordia University of Edmonton, respectively, have been selected to attend the conference, taking place July 4-9 in Montpellier, France.
"I'm really glad to participate in the 13th FISU Forum and represent Canada and Quebec," said Hamel. "I look forward to exchanging and sharing best practices during this event about university sports."
The FISU Forum is a bi-annual conference that brings together over 200 representatives from more than 60 national university sport federations. The event features plenary sessions, workshops, as well as sport and cultural activities focusing on leadership, communication and cooperation within university sport around the world.
"The FISU Forum is such an incredible platform to bring together sport leaders from around the world to discuss and talk about collegiate sport," said Mrak. "To be able to share what we do here in Canada with colleagues internationally, and also learn from what other countries do, should be an extremely valuable experience. This is an opportunity to be on the cutting edge of the dialogue in post-secondary athletics, in the field of education, and the role that sport plays in student-engagement across university and college campuses on a global scale."
