MVB: Recap from Day 1 at Limoilou

Match 1: Camosun Chargers 3, Redeemer Royals 0

The Camosun Chargers came out firing against the Redeemer Royals in the first match of the CCAA Men's Volleyball Championship. The Chargers claimed the first set 25-15, but the Royals made things much closer in the second (25-22) and the third (25-23). Camosun showcased a balanced offense, making very few errors while putting a lot of pressure on Redeemer.

Edouardo Bisa, Vitor Pereira and Lorez Vogel, filled out Camosun's scoresheet, accounting for more than 10 points each. Vogel, was selected as the 4imprint Player of the Match for the Chargers with an 80% efficacy. On the Royals side, Daniel Wolferp emerged as the Player of the Match while Brett Jenkins also stood out by adding 10 points to the team's score.

Match 2: St. Thomas Tommies 3, Géants de Saint-Jean-sur Richelieu 0

The St. Thomas Tommies won the second contest of the Championship in three sets of 25-22, 29-27 and 25-17 over the Géants of Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu.

The Tommies demonstrated great efficiency and consistency throughout the match earning a well balanced team victory. St-Jean put up a strong effort countering St. Thomas with the same energy that earned them the RSEQ Championship. Errors proved to be the difference maker in the final result with the Tommies committing far fewer than the Géants.

Hugo Ouellet, the 4imprint Player of the Match for the Géants, tallied 15 points, leading all players in scoring. On the Tommies side, Garrett Dickson was close behind, scoring 13 points and was named STU's Player of the Match.

Match 3: Titans de Limoilou 3, Red Deer Kings 2

The Host Titans of Cégep Limoilou sent their fans home happy by winning a five set thriller against the Red Deer Kings (25-19, 25-11, 23-25, 14-25, 15-10).

The Titans started very strong, making few mistakes on route to the first set victory. Red Deer bounced back early in the second set, but Limoilou eventually pulled away backed by strong defence from Xavier Desfossés. On the verge of defeat, the Kings, led by Dillon Gauci, battled back and quieted the excited home crowd by narrowly winning the third set. Then mistakes by the Titans and consistency from the Kings led to a fourth set victory for Red Deer, pushing the match into a fifth and deciding set.

With support and energy from the crowd, the Titans came back strongly in the fifth. Four masterful services from CCAA All-Canadian Charles St-Aubin and six straight points led the Titans to victory. Also contributing 38 assists over the course of the match, St-Aubin earned the 4imprint Player of the Match for Limoilou. Cody Boulding was named Red Deer Player of the Match thanks to his powerful attack from the center.

Match 4: Humber Hawks 3, CMU Blazers 0

The Humber Hawks were dominant for much of their three set victory over the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers (25-18, 25-16, 25-23).

The OCAA Champions powered their way through the first two sets but the Blazers rallied in the third. CMU forced a late tie, 23-23, before Humber clinched their berth in the championship semi-finals.

CCAA Player of the Year, Joshua Fadare, was named Humber's 4imprint Player of the Match. By the second set, Fadare had already recorded 14 successful attacks on 16 attempts and finished the match with 21 points in total and 68% efficiency. CMU libero Levi Klassen was named Player of the Match for the Blazers.

Following the match Fadare stated that although his team was pleased with the victory they are expecting an intense match against Limoilou and need to stay focused.
