CCAA Men's Soccer: Day 3 Recap

CCAA Men's Soccer: Day 3 Recap

Match 9: Nomades de Montmorency 2, George Brown Huskies 1

Yassine Taitah put his team on his back, and now they will play for a CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship bronze medal.

Taitah both of his team’s goals – the first a beautiful bicycle kick in the 15th minute – as his Montmorency College Nomades defeated the George Brown College Huskies 2-1 Friday afternoon at SAIT’s Cohos Commons Field.

The win sends the Nomades to Saturday’s bronze medal game, which will be played at 12:30pm MST on Saturday afternoon.

Montmorency controlled much of the play in the opening half, but George Brown made things interesting after the break.

Much like Thursday’s last-minute heroics which earned them a win over the SAIT Trojans in penalty kicks, the Huskies scored a goal in the 78th minute off the foot of Mark-Luis De Coito to make things interesting on Friday.

Players of the Game were Christopher Badibenji for the Huskies and, obviously, Taitah for the Nomades.

Match 10: NAIT Ooks 7, St. Thomas Tommies 3

Ousman Maheshe did Ousman Maheshe things Friday afternoon.

Just one day removed from scoring four goals, Maheshe added three more as his NAIT Ooks beat the St Thomas Tommies 7-3 in a high-scoring affair played at SAIT’s Cohos Commons Field.

The game itself was relatively quiet until the 30-minute mark and then the switch flipped.

NAIT and St. Thomas combined for four goals in the next 10 minutes of play – three of them coming from the Ooks (one from Maheshe and two from Matthew Zima) and one from the Tommies (Brett Springer).

After the half, NAIT tacked on another when Mario Deluca scored in the 53rd minute, followed up just one minute later by Maheshe’s second of the contest. He notched his third in the 70th minute to make it two hat tricks in as many days. His seven goals in three games is good enough to lead the tournament.

Not to be outdone, Springer also recorded a hat trick, scoring again in the 57th and 89th minute to finish things off.

Zima and St Thomas’ Ben Davidge were named the Players of the Game.
