CCAA Championships return to Mount Allison

CCAA Championships return to Mount Allison

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Basketball National Championship will be hosted by Mount Allison University in 2024.

The Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Assocation (ACAA) institution will host the event in Sackville, NB, from March 13-16, 2024.

Mount Allison showed its ‘Mountie Pride’ back in 2018, when it hosted the CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship. Jacques Bellefleur, Director of Athletics at Mount Allison, and his experienced staff are excited to showcase their renewed commitment to welcome the country’s best collegiate Men’s Basketball teams to New Brunswick.

“Many members of our 2018 Host Committee are back and eager to again provide the competing teams with the best experience possible,” said Bellefleur. “Through fostering local partnerships and the pride these individuals have for their region, this event is sure to be memorable.”

The Mounties, dual members of the CCAA and U Sports, have proven to be highly competitive at both levels with consistent nationally ranked varsity teams, appearances at national events and a proven record of producing All-Canadians.

In addition to hosting many recent ACAA events, Mount Allison also twice hosted CCAA Badminton National Championships (2008, 2011).

All CCAA Championship matches will be held in the new state-of-the-art McCormack Gymnasium, which has been transformed through a $5.5 million renovation project that has injected life into Mount Allison’s Athletic Centre. The facility features a brand new 10,800 square foot hardwood floor, upgraded lighting and retractable bleachers.

The tournament will feature eight teams from across Canada: conference champions from the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST), Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and ACAA as well as two wildcard teams and the host Mounties.

“The Mounties have a rich hosting history within its athletics department of hosting both ACAA and CCAA championships and this event will add to their success both on and off the court,” said Jonathan Lambert, CCAA Men’s Basketball Convenor. “Having this championship back in the Maritimes will allow student athletes and coaching staff from the other western provinces to experience what east coast hospitality is all about.”

Mount Allison University is located within the territory of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq.

The 2023 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship will be hosted by the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, AB, from March 16-19.
