Fred Colgan of Cégep Champlain St. Lawrence has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Coach of the Year.

The Lions coach received the award this evening at the 2017 PING CCAA Golf National Championships banquet, hosted by Durham College in Oshawa, ON.

“Fred has devoted 20 years to St. Lawrence golf and has been instrumental in developing the sport in the CCAA and in the province of Quebec,” said David Munro, CCAA VP Sport Development. “He is a mentor and role model for his student-athletes on and off the golf course.”

Colgan led his Men’s team to a perfect record this season in the RSEQ. The Lions were victorious in all five rounds, finishing 51 strokes ahead of second-place André-Laurendeau.

St. Lawrence golfers Charles-Éric Bélanger, David Twedell and Louis-Alexandre Jobin Colgan (Fred’s son) swept the podium individually in the RSEQ. On the women’s side, Sarah-Eve Rhéaume earned the individual RSEQ title with a four-round average score of 72.

This year’s Men’s team demonstrated more consistency than previous years thanks to Colgan’s remarkable work ethic and his focus on the psychological aspect of his players’ game.

His dedication to the St. Lawrence program over the last 20 years and to the development of the sport is unequaled in the province of Quebec. He is a mentor to his players in all aspects of life and has the complete development of each individual at heart.

Fred, the recipient of the CCAA Golf Coach of the Year award in 2012, also coaches the provincial team in Quebec.

CCAA Coach of the Year recipients receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

Hritzuk led Okanagan to two silver medals at the PACWEST Championships. He has always stressed the mental aspect of golf and the ability for his players to let their natural talent guide them on the course. He encourages his players to strategize throughout the season but then clear their mind and not be incapacitated or hindered by overthinking. Hritzuk is a full-time certified instructor at World Beat Family Golf, where he is sought after as an instructor for youth golf in the community.		Moore led the Women’s team at Medicine Hat to a silver medal at the ACAC Golf Championships. Among his top priorities at Medicine Hat are the character and life skill development of his student-athletes. Moore is also the lead instructor with both the Notre Dame Academy and Medicine Hat College Continuing Studies summer junior programs. He operates and instructs various junior programs, working with more than 200 juniors per year.		Trichilo guided both Humber teams to provincial titles, including a 40-shot victory by the Men’s team at the OCAA Championships. The Hawks also had four individuals earn medals at provincials. Humber’s coach since 2004, Trichilo is a true mentor on the course and in the classroom. He provides his student-athletes many additional competitive opportunities, including multiple events in the U.S. against NCAA teams. Over the years, Trichilo has helped more than 280 aspiring amateurs achieve their goals of becoming PGA of Canada Professionals.		Landine led the Varsity Reds to the Men’s title at the ACAA Golf Championships. UNB, victorious at all three ACAA events this season, had a dominant final round at provincials to finish 25 strokes ahead of the Holland Hurricanes. He educates his players on how to better manage their game on the course. Landine, a 2016 and 2017 PGA of Canada Atlantic Player of the Year finalist, also organizes various competitive and beginner junior programs at Kingswood Golf Course.
