Lionel-Groulx to host CCAA Cross-Country Running Nationals

June 7, 2016 – Collège Lionel-Groulx has been approved to host the 2017 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships.

The Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) institution, located in Sainte-Thérèse, QC, will host the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association event Nov. 10-11, 2017.

“We are really pleased that Lionel-Groulx has stepped forward and offered to host in 2017,” said Bill Corcoran, CCAA Cross-Country Running Convenor. “They are one of the top cross-country programs in the CCAA and the local area has a strong history of organizing National level track and field championships. I’m excited.”

Only 20 minutes away from Montreal, Sainte-Thérèse is located in the Basses-Laurentides tourism region. The Championship races will be held on the grounds of Blainville. This location, which is already home to an annual cross-country competition, is a mixed-terrain course will include gravel, grass and sand.

The Nordiques Cross-Country Running team is part of Lionel-Groulx’s dynamic student life. The team has attended the last three CCAA National Championships; the women’s team captured a gold medal at the 2015 event in Brockville, ON.

“The event will really bring together the College as each department assigns key staff to the Host Committee,” said Nathalie Blanchette, Atheltics Student Life Counselor at Lionel-Groulx.

“The committee is looking forward to hosting the event and leveraging the expertise of its members to provide participants with a great experience.”

The 2016 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships will be hosted by Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Nov. 11-12.
