Beginning in 2020-21, Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Coaches and Administrators will be required to undertake Safe Sport Training E-learning.
The training is mandatory for the team support contingency that would be attending a CCAA Championship and those taking part in CCAA activities, such as meetings. That includes all coaches, Athletic Directors and support staff, CCAA delegates (Directors, Executive, Convenors and Staff) as well as CCAA contractors and CCAA committee representatives.
“The course is really well done, and I love the various testimonies of high-level athletes and coaches on what they have experienced,” said Vicky Tessier, Athletic Director at Cégep de l’Outaouais. “Even if I have been a coach myself for over 15 years, it was a nice reminder and what struck me the most is when the Olympic athlete said she would give back her medal in a second if she didn’t have to experience what she did.”
This new CAC Safe Sport Training E-Learning meets the requirement of Sport Canada. It was developed by a body of experts in sport, training and prevention to align with the values within the new Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).
The 90-minute training program is free and will equip coaches, administrators and leaders with the knowledge to recognize, address and prevent maltreatment in sport. In addition, the CAC has created tools and resources to help embed Safe Sport principles throughout organizations.
“I am very comfortable in demanding our coaches and administrators follow this training,” said Tessier, who was inducted into the CCAA Hall of Fame (Athlete Category) in 2018.
Safe Sport Training is available in both official languages, meets accessibility guidelines, and works on any platform or device. Certified coaches will also earn two Professional Development points upon completing the module.
