Brock Davidiuk

Davidiuk led the Kings to CCAA titles in 2002 and 2003, his only two seasons at Red Deer College.

In 2002, Davidiuk was named to the First-All-Tournament Team at Nationals and received CCAA Academic All-Canadian honours. The following year, he posted one of the most decorative seasons in CCAA history.

In addition to earning a second CCAA title in 2003, Davidiuk was named to the First All-Tournament Team as well as Most Valuable Player of the National Championship. He was also named a CCAA All-Canadian and CCAA Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year.

Looking back, Davidiuk is honoured to have been a part of the RDC Kings Volleyball legacy, a dynasty created by head coach Keith Hansen.

“I consider myself very fortunate to have been on that team and experience the kind of success and bond we all had,” said Davidiuk. “The bond has stood the test of time and I’m forever grateful for those two years of my life – they’ve shaped a large part of who I am.”

Davidiuk went on to star at the University of Alberta, where he led the Golden Bears to a CIS (now U Sports) Championship and was named a CIS All-Canadian and Championship MVP.

In 2002, Davidiuk also joined the Canadian Junior National Team that won gold at the NORCECA Junior Championship. The following year, he was once again named to the Junior National Team roster that finished 9^th at the 2003 World Junior Championship in Iran.

Davidiuk then competed for the Senior National Team from 2004-12. As captain of the 2009 squad, he led his team to a berth in the 2010 FIVB World Championship in Italy.

He concluded his career with 41 international matches for Team Canada, while also playing professional volleyball overseas for several years.

Davidiuk is appreciative of the time he spent on and off the court in the ACAC and CCAA. His fondest memories are the everyday interactions with teammates – a special group of student-athletes at Red Deer College.

There were also important life lessons gained during those two seasons, as he learned about hard work, sacrifice, comradery and respect.

“I also think the success I had in the CCAA set the stage for me personally to continue on a high-performance trajectory,” said Davidiuk. “I still had a lot of learning to do after I left the CCAA, but those two years were foundational in my further pursuit and accomplishment of playing for Team Canada and professionally overseas.”

Davidiuk now directs his energy to his company Grass Roots Volley, which focuses on running position and skill specific clinics for volleyball athletes in Alberta. He is also an associate coach with the Golden Bears.

Davidiuk was inducted into the ACAC Hall of Fame in 2014. The 1999-2007 Red Deer Kings were inducted into the Alberta Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2009.
