Gino Brousseau
Two-time Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship most valuable player Gino Brousseau was inducted into the CCAA Hall of Fame in the Athlete Category.
The Titans de Limoilou standout led his team to back-to-back CCAA National titles in Men’s Volleyball in 1985 and 1986. At both Championships, Brousseau was named a first team All-Star and MVP.
“When he arrived at Limoilou, Gino was a prospect for the national team and he had an immediate impact on the performance of the team,” said Jean-Noël Corriveau, Athletic Director at Cégep Limoilou. “Gino is a simple guy, he was well liked by his teammates and he brought a lot of energy to the volleyball court.”
The Titans were the first dynasty in CCAA Men’s Volleyball, winning six consecutive National Championships from 1984-89.
Brousseau would go on to play for the Laval Rouge et Or and win a CIAU (now U SPORTS) Men’s Volleyball Championship in 1990. He represented Canada from 1984-2000 and competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, before playing professionally in France and Japan for 10 years.
He is proud of his roots at Limoilou and the back-to-back CCAA National Championship victories.
“This is where it all started for me, where I developed both as an athlete and a person and it’s with the Titans de Limoilou that I learned to win,” said Brousseau. “It prepared me for the next steps in my career that allowed me to live my passion to this day.”
He was inducted into the Volleyball Quebec Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame in 2013.
“My best memories of my time in the CCAA, beyond the victories, are the friendships that I made both with teammates and opponents that continue to this day,” said Brousseau, who is now an assistant coach with the Rouge et Or’s Men’s Volleyball team along with fellow CCAA Hall of Fame inductee, Pascal Clément.
Brousseau and Clement were instrumental in building Limoilou’s dynasty in Men’s Volleyball, which led to the Cégep having earned the CCAA Supremacy Award (25 years) in 1999.
“Gino and Pascal helped build a dynasty whose success has continued for 40 years,” said Corriveau.
“Cégep Limoilou is very proud to have two of its former Titans inducted in the CCAA Hall of Fame and it’s a fitting tribute given the impact that they had on volleyball at Limoilou as well as on the provincial and national stage.”
