Women's Championship

The women’s morning sessions were highlighted by late-stage heroics in two of the matches. The PACWEST Conference Team kept pace with the more experienced Concordia Thunder but found themselves down one with two to play. Two points in the ninth pulled them ahead and a steal in the tenth sealed the deal for the BC squad.

The SAIT Trojans and Humber Hawks also competed in a spirited contest that featured no blank ends. At the midway junction the Hawks were up 5-2 on the Trojans but SAIT pulled even with a single in the sixth and a steal worth two in the seventh.  Humber immediately regained the lead with a pair in the eighth, but SAIT scored five across the final two ends to claim the win.

Fanshawe and Augustana rounded out the morning Draw with dominant victories over the Assiniboine Cougars (12-0) and Mohawk Mountaineers (13-2) respectively.

The Women’s second draw of Day Two saw the eventual winning teams get out to big leads which proved to be insurmountable.  Humber recorded their first win of the championship, posting five in the third and then stealing multiple points in three straight ends, on route to a 14-2 win over Mohawk. SAIT put together a similar performance against Augustana, jumping out to an early 5-point lead and earning a few more points on steals, to earn an 11-5 victory.

The PACWEST built on the momentum of their earlier triumph going up 4-0 on Fanshawe after two. The Falcons battled back trailing by only one after five ends.  The PACWEST pulled ahead again though and held on to claim the match 9-5. The Concordia Thunder rebounded from their previous loss, winning six of eight ends against the Assiniboine Cougars, resulting in a final score of 9-2.

Men's Championship

Conference rivals, the Mohawk Mountaineers and Sault Cougars, battled in the closest contest of the Men’s morning Draw. The teams traded leads early, but the Mountaineers edged ahead in the middle frames. Sault battled back and tied the match up in the seventh. A steal by Mohawk in the ninth locked up the contest 8-5 for the OCAA Champs.

The other matches were a little more decisive with the Humber Hawks beating the Concordia Thunder 8-4, the NAIT Ooks winning 9-3 over the SAIT Trojans and the Red Deer Kings defeating the Assiniboine Cougars 9-4.

There was lots of variety in the men’s matches during the evening draw, with Humber and Mohawk ending the day as the lone unbeatens. NAIT led early, but the Hawks put together a solid, consistent performance that culminated in an 8-6 victory. Mohawk took a different route against Red Deer, breaking their back-and-forth deadlock with five points in the seventh to claim the match 9-3.

SAIT and Concordia traded ends and leads until the sixth, where the Trojans stole two and held on for the eventual 8-6 win. Assiniboine were in tough against Sault, who scored multiple points in four of the first five ends, ultimately resulting in a 13-2 win for the Cougars.
