DAL AC to host CCAA’s best in badminton

Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (DAL AC) will host the 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Badminton National Championships.

The Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) institution will host the event March 8-11, 2023, in Truro, NS.

The host organizing committee will be led by Andrew Harding, Associate Director of Athletic Services at DAL AC.

“The CCAA badminton community is super excited about DAL AC once again hosting the CCAA Championships on their beautiful campus in Nova Scotia,” said Michael Kopinak, CCAA Badminton Convenor. “Andrew will bring his vast experience, including being the former Executive Director of Badminton Nova Scotia, to help showcase some of the best badminton talent in the country, while ensuring good old fashioned East Coast hospitality.”

The province of Nova Scotia is indeed recognized internationally for its hospitality and breathtaking scenery. The town of Truro is proud to be knows as ‘The Hub of Nova Scotia’.

All matches will take place on portable courts at DAL AC’s Langille Athletic Centre, which provides athletic, fitness and recreational services and features a double gymnasium.

DAL AC has hosted the CCAA Badminton National Championships on three other occasions (2019, 1999, 1994). The ACAA institution will once again work closely with Badminton Canada and Badminton Nova Scotia.

“DAL AC has a strong history in hosting sporting events,” said Harding. “The athletic department benefits from an experienced administrative staff.”

Harding, along with two members of the Rams badminton team from DAL AC, recently attended the 2022 CCAA Badminton National Championships, a successful event hosted by The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton.

Harding had the opportunity to transition into the role of Athletic Director at DAL AC while hosting the 2019 CCAA National Badminton Championships, which will also provide additional experience and insight into how the competition can be improved.

“Being able to take the recommendations of the CCAA from the 2019 championship, evaluation and applying them to the 2023 event, will further improve the overall experience,” he said.
