CCAA Championships return to DAL AC

CCAA Championships return to DAL AC

Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (DAL AC) will host the 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross-Country Running National Championships.

The Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) institution will host the event Nov. 10-11, 2023, in Truro, NS.

“The CCAA Cross-Country Running community is so excited about DAL AC hosting in 2023 as it is wonderful to be returning to the ACAA for our next national championships,” said Darcy Brioux, CCAA Cross-Country Running Convenor.

DAL AC has the support of the town of Truro to use one of the most picturesque outdoor facilities in the province, Victoria Park.

More than 130 years old, Victoria Park is a 3000-acre treasure in the heart of Truro. The park offers endless recreational, cultural, and leisure opportunities such as running, hiking, photography, birdwatching, snowshoeing, cycling, and more.

“DAL AC has prepared an excellent bid including holding the championship races in beautiful Victoria Park,” said Brioux.

Andrew Harding, Associate Director for the Department of Athletics and Recreation at DAL AC, will be the Championship Chairperson.

“DAL AC is appreciative of the opportunity to once again host a competition of this caliber,” said Harding. “We will use this platform to promote the CCAA, the athletes who are competing, the sport of Cross-Country Running, and our institution in a way we can all take pride in.”

DAL AC has nine varsity teams on campus and the Rams are proud members of the ACAA and CCAA. The ACAA institution has a strong history in hosting sporting events and the athletic department benefits from an experienced administrative staff.

In recent seasons, they have hosted numerous ACAA and CCAA Championships. In 2021, DAL AC hosted the ACAA Cross-Country Running Championships at Victoria Park, providing a challenging and memorable race for student-athletes from six participating ACAA teams.

Harding and DAL AC will also be playing host in March, presenting the 2023 CCAA Badminton National Championships – an event they also hosted in 2019.

The Rams certainly welcome any opportunity to showcase their campus and athletic facility to student-athletes, coaches, and administration from across the nation.

Only one ACAA institution (St. Thomas in 2010) has ever hosted the CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships, which debuted in 2002.

DAL AC is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq.

The 2024 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships is slated to be hosted by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA).
