Joe Iacobellis named 2008-2009 CCAA Athletic Director of the Year

Joe's contributions to the BCCAA and CCAA over the past 20 years have been outstanding, whether it's acting as a CCAA convenor, a tournament chair for numerous BCCAA and CCAA championships, or by developing an elite program at Capilano by setting high athletic and academic standards. Under the direction of Joe Iacobellis as Athletic Director, Blues Athletics has won 48 BCCAA championships and 11 CCAA championships and 10 Coach of the Year awards since 1974. On the academic side of things, there have been 28 CCAA Academic All-Canadians since 1996 awarded to Capilano University, 40 BCCAA academic Excellence awards since 2002 and 53 CCAA All-Canadians.

Joe is a tireless individual whose has dedicated well over 30 years to the development of young athletes at various levels of competition. During his time as Director of Athletics at Capilano University over the last 20 years, Joe has played a crucial role in not only the development, but also the advancement of athletic programs for men and women both locally and provincially. Joe has a "Midas Touch" when it comes to the longevity and success of the school's athletics program both at home and abroad. Though he has fostered success in the sports arena, he is first and foremost an educator; someone who is committed to helping young athletes reach their full potential both on and off the field, Milt Williams, Sports Information Director, Capilano University.

Over the years Joe has served as a past CCAA National Soccer Convener and was also the CCAA Representative for the BCCAA. In the BCCAA, Joe had been a Soccer Convener for 13 years, was the Volleyball Convener for 6 years, and the Disciplinary Chair Person for the last 3 years. Joe has also served the BCCAA in the capacity of Vice President. Technical for 4 years and Tournament Coordinator for both CCAA and BCCAA as tournament hosts. Joe has lent his expertise and leadership to many organizations, such as the Capilano College steering committee for the 2010 Olympic Games. His involvement with the 2010 Legacy Games is to develop a Sports Medicine building to house Human Kinetics and Sport Medicine programs and services for the community.

Joe has developed endowment funds and athletic scholarships for student athletes and also assists students in academic affairs. Further to these accomplishments, Joe assisted in the design, building, fund raising and implementation of the Sportsplex facility at Capilano College in 1990.
