Fred Connors receives 2013 CCAA Coaching Excellence Award Across All Sports

The CCAA’s highest coaching honour is selected based on contribution to the sport, athlete development, and success in building their institution’s program.

“Fred Connors has done an excellent job with the STU team,” says Judy Smith, CCAA’s VP governance. “He has a good basketball mind, and they’ve done really well in the ACAA conference the last five years.”

Fred Connors was also named the 2013 ACAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year and the 2013 CCAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year.

His team has racked up three consecutive undefeated regular seasons, won the ACAA conference championship title four of the past five years, and earned bronze at the BMO 2012 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship.

The fully-certified level 3 coach is also involved with Basketball NB, Best Buddies Canada, and local youth clinics.

Candidates for the 2013 CCAA Coaching Excellence Award included:

Reg Carrick, Olds Broncos
Paul Eberhardt, Langara Falcons
Al Mawani, Douglas Royals

The award is co-presented by Coaches of Canada; Connors will receive a one-year free membership to Coaches of Canada and a gift co-branded by Coaches of Canada and the CCAA.
