Ray Chateau Recipient of 2012 CCAA Coaching Excellence Award Across All Sports

The CCAA's highest coaching honour is selected based on contribution to the sport, athlete development, and success in building their institution's program.

"Coaches of Canada congratulates Ray as recipient of this year's Coaching Excellence Award," added Wayne Parro, ChPC, executive director of Coaches of Canada. "He exemplifies the leadership qualities required to be nominated for this honour, and has an impressive list of accomplishments, both on and off the field of play."

Chateau has led the Humber Hawks men and women's golf teams since 2001. He also serves as program coordinator of Humber's professional golf management program, hosted the Golf Canada national teaching and coaching symposium, co-founded the Golf Coaches Association of Canada and serves as its president.

Since joining the team Chateau's athletes have earned nine PING CCAA Golf National Championship men's team titles, three women's team titles and 13 individual medals. The men's team also won the Golf Canada University/College Championship three times and Chateau has represented Team Canada at six international FISU events.

Chateau's former players have gone on to claim titles at the Ontario Amateur and Ontario Junior Championships, as well as competing at NCAA Division 1 and US Amateur tournaments. His goal is to make Humber the Canadian leader in post-secondary varsity golf.

The other nominees for the 2012 CCAA Coaching Excellence Award Across All Sports were Tony Bryce of the VIU Mariners, Drew Carver of the MacEwan Griffins, Brian Jonker of the Mohawk Mountaineers, Al Mawani of the Douglas Royals, and Sergio Texeira of the NAIT Ooks.

Coaches of Canada executive director Wayne Parro will present the award on behalf of Coaches of Canada and the CCAA. Chateau also receives a one-year free membership to Coaches of Canada and a gift co-branded by Coaches of Canada and the CCAA.
