The stage is set for the Championship Finals

Women’s Singles

The final day of round-robin competition leaves CCAA All-Canadian Huyen Le (George Brown, OCAA) undefeated with a 5-0 record heading into Friday evening’s semi-final match against Priyanna Ramdhani (Olds College, ACAC Wildcard) with a record of 2-3. 2020 CCAA Player of the Year Takeisha Wang finishes second heading into semi-finals where she will face 2019 CCAA silver-medalist Anh Hoang (George Brown, OCAA Wildcard).

Le remains undefeated throughout the championships as she wins 2-0 (21-8, 21-9) over Ramdhani. Wang will return to the gold medal match as she wins 21-18, 21-7 against Hoang.

Men’s Singles

OCAA silver-medalist Pranav Satheesh (Conestoga College, OCAA Wildcard) leads the pack heading into semi-finals where he will play 2019 CCAA bronze-medalist Narayan Ramdhani (The King’s University, ACAC Wildcard). 2019 CCAA Player of the Year Ramnish Kumar, (Humber College, OCAA) will play 2020 CCAA Player of the Year Roymond Kim (NAIT, ACAC) for a spot in tomorrow’s gold medal match. In round 4, Kumar defended his title taking the match into 3 sets (21-12, 21-16, 21-15).

Satheesh wins 21-13, 21-12 over Ramdhani and will make his first CCAA gold medal match appearance. Kumar will be returning to the gold medal match, winning 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) over Kim.

Women’s Doubles

Humber Hawks women’s doubles team, led by All-Canadian and defending champion Chloe Rowe and teammate Susanna Quach, remain undefeated heading into the semi-finals against Fiona Purdy and Katherine Zhu (University of King’s College, ACAA), who ended round-robin play with a record of 2-3 (4TH overall). Jasleen Kaur and Johnna Rymes (Concordia University of Edmonton, ACAC) will play their provincial rivals Samantha Hsu and Ivy Ung (NAIT, ACAC Wildcard) after winning 21-8, 21-11 in round one of the championships.

Rowe and Quach dominate the match holding Purdy and Zhu 2-0 (21-7, 21-9). Kaur and Rymes win 21-12, 21-13 over Hsu and Rymes and will head to the gold medal match tomorrow.

Men’s Doubles

Saativik Mahajan and Faizan Shaikh (Seneca College, OCAA) finished with a perfect 5-0 record and look to carry their momentum into the semi-finals where they will play 2019 CCAA bronze medalists Arpit Taneja and Ayubu Touray (Humber College, OCAA Wildcard). 2019 CCAA silver-medalist and All-Canadian Bryce Mason and Jack Ronahan (University of King’s College, ACAA) will take on Nicolas Pittman and Braxton Wong (Concordia University of Edmonton, ACAC) in semi-final action after finishing 3rd overall (3-2).

Touray and Taneja (Humber College, OCAA Wildcard) fell to their OCAA rivals Mahajan and Shaikh 21-13, 21-12. After losing the first game 21-10, Mason and Ronahan come back to beat Concordia’s Pittman and Wong 21-11, 21-18 to earn a spot in the gold medal match against the OCAA.

Mixed Doubles  

Eyota Kwan and Alexander Fung (NAIT, ACAC) finished 1st overall in round-robin play heading into semi-finals against Connie Juang and Luc-Ly Nguyen (NAIT, ACAC Wildcard) who finished 4th overall. Poy Lo and Christine Nguyen (Seneca College, OCAA) and Victoria Duong and Desmond Chan (Humber College, OCAA Wildcard) head to the semi-finals, ranked 2nd and 3rd overall.

Fung and Kwan hold their opponents to 2 sets (21-11, 21-13) to move onto the gold medal match. Duong and Chan fought hard but fell to Ontario’s gold medalists 21-11, 21-16.
