Nomades guests at Parliament of Canada

On Monday, Nov. 20, the Collège Montmorency Nomades visited Ottawa following the invitation of Angelo G. Iacono, Liberal Member of Parliament for the Alfred-Pellan riding in Laval. It was the first time a sports team from the college was invited to the Parliament of Canada.

The visit followed the Nomades’ win at the CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championships in March 2017. During the day, the student-athletes did a guided tour of Parliament, and a formal declaration was made in their honour in the House of Commons by Mr. Iacono.

At the end of the day, they met with several ministers and MPs that joined them after the question period. Attendees included the Honourable Kent Hehr, Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism, Stéphane Lauzon, Parliamentary Secretary of the Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Eva Nassif, MP for the Vimy riding in Laval and Gérard Deltell, MP for Louis-Saint-Laurent.

The team also met with Geoff Regan, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada.

Everyone the team met was proud of their success as 2017 National Champions and wished them all the best at next year’s CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship, which Collège Montmorency will be hosting March 14-17, 2018.
