The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association is proud to announce its volleyball wildcards for this season.
Wildcard berths in Women’s Volleyball will go to the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) and Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ). The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is ranked No. 1 in the wildcard standings but as the host conference, they relinquish their wildcard spot.
The 2018 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by GPRC in Grande Prairie, AB, March 7-10.
Meanwhile, wildcard positions in Men’s Volleyball will be awarded to teams from the ACAC and RSEQ.
The 2018 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Camosun College in Victoria, BC, March 7-10.
At the men’s event last March at Fanshawe College in London, ON, the wildcard Medicine Hat Rattlers of the ACAC defeated the host Falcons in a thrilling five-set bronze medal match to earn a CCAA medal.
GPRC, the ACAC’s wildcard entry at the women’s event last spring at Lakeland College in Vermillion, AB, earned a fourth-place finish at CCAA Nationals.
CCAA Men’s & Women’s Volleyball National Championships consist of eight teams: Five provincial champions, two wildcards and the host.
The wildcard spots are awarded to CCAA member conferences based on their performance at National Championships over the past three years. Conferences awarded wildcard positions are eligible to send a second team to CCAA Nationals. A conference may not fill more than two spots at a CCAA National Championship, which excludes the host conference from being eligible for wildcards.
