GPRC to welcome CCAA’s best in Women’s Volleyball

GPRC of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) has been awarded the 2018 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship.

The bid was approved today in Ottawa during the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s annual winter board meeting. The Championship will be held in Grande Prairie, AB, March 7-10, 2018.

“GPRC has a rich history of hosting CCAA Volleyball Nationals and they are well-supported by the local community,” said Fred Batley, CCAA Women’s Volleyball Convenor. “Student-athletes can expect an electric atmosphere with excellent volleyball, big crowds and a first-class facility.”

GPRC hosted five consecutive CCAA National Championships from 1998-2002 (Women’s Volleyball in 2001-02 and Men’s Volleyball in 1998-2000). The Wolves women’s program has had recent success on the court as well, earning a silver medal at CCAA Nationals in 2014.

Wolves Athletics is part of the newly established GPRC Centre for Sport, Fitness and Wellness. This new Centre includes the Alberta Sport Development Centre, the Be Fit for Life Centre, the fitness facilities and Student Wellness.

The City of Grande Prairie has hosted several national and international events in recent years such as the Arctic Winter Games, the RBC Royal Bank Cup, the Ford World Women’s Curling Championships, the Alberta Summer Games and the Canada Winter Games.

The 2017 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Camosun College in Victoria, BC, March 8-11.
