March 9, 2016 – Maud Chapleau of les Élans de Garneau has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year.
Chapleau received the award this evening at the 2016 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship banquet, hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI.
“Maud was the heart and soul for the No. 1 ranked team in the CCAA this season,” said David Munro, VP Sport Development. “Winning the Player of the Year award solidifies the sentiment by many across the country that she is among the elite players in the CCAA.”
An explosive attacker, Chapleau led Garneau to a 13-1 record and third straight RSEQ Championship. She was first in the RSEQ with an average of 4.56 points per set and 143 kills. In her final season at Garneau, she was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player for the second straight year.
“Maud has been a dominant player within the CCAA and RSEQ over her career and changing her position did not slow her down,” said Fred Batley, CCAA Women’s Volleyball Convenor. “She has transitioned well into this role and still is a dominant player in the CCAA.”
In 2015, she led the Élans to a silver medal at the CCAA National Championship, where she was named an All-Canadian and first-team All-Star. Chapleau has been voted Quebec’s U21 Player of the Year the last two seasons by Volleyball Quebec.
“She is a dynamic all around go-to player who is a leader on and off the court,” said Batley.
There is no off-season for Chapleau, who also plays beach volleyball during summer months. In addition, she is a referee in recreational volleyball leagues.
CCAA Player of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
Other nominees for the Player of the Year award were Tylar Turnbull of the VIU Mariners (PACWEST), Samantha Zacharias of the Briercrest Clippers (ACAC), Curtiss Straatsma of the Redeemer Royals (OCAA) and Christina Day of the MSVU Mystics (ACAA).
