GOLD MEDAL GAME: Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy 3, VIU Mariners 0
The Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy defeated the VIU Mariners 3-0 to earn the gold medal at the 2019 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship in Edmonton, AB.
Second-year forward Rosalie Dumont scored a hat trick to lead Sainte-Foy to its first CCAA Women’s Soccer medal ever.
The final day featured cold and snowy conditions but the host Concordia University of Edmonton staff and volunteers ensured the best possible field conditions for the players.
The Dynamiques took an early lead when Dumont converted on a perfect cross from Lea-Jeanne Fortier in the 14thminute. Dumont struck again in the 26thminute when she beat the VIU goalkeeper from 30 yards out with a perfectly placed kick.
The Mariners put the pressure on the Dynamiques early in the second half but couldn’t beat Sainte-Foy goalkeeper Laurie Dore.
Dumont completed the hat trick, burying another pass from Fortier in the 74thminute.
The 4imprint Players of the Game were Cara Dunlop of the Mariners and Genevieve Beauchemin of the Dynamiques. Dumont was named the championship’s Most Valuable Player.
The Mariners were awarded with the CCAA Exemplary Leadership Award. The VIU student-athletes and coaching staff were gracious and showed true sportsmanship and class throughout the week.
BRONZE MEDAL GAME: Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers 1, Fanshawe Falcons 0
The Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers defeated the Fanshawe Falcons 1-0 in the bronze medal game earlier in the day.
The matchup featured the RSEQ and OCAA champions under snowy and frigid conditions.
Karina Fortier opened the scoring for the Cavaliers with a well-placed shot the box in the 7thminute. At halftime, Concordia University of Edmonton volunteers did an outstanding job to remove snow from the field and ensure the best possible playing conditions for the players.
Champlain controlled the play in the second half with the majority of possession and earned their third straight CCAA medal at Nationals (Bronze in 2019, Gold in 2018, Silver in 2017).
Players of the Game were Karina Fortier of the Cavaliers and Daniella Strano of the Falcons.
