Johnson named CCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year

Tiffany Johnson of the Cambrian Golden Shield has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Year.

Johnson received the award this evening during the CCAA All-Canadian Banquet at the 2017 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship, hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus and University of King’s College in Halifax, NS.

Johnson scored more goals than any other player in the CCAA this season, finding the back of the net 21 times.

The Golden Shield sniper ends her incredible career with 83 goals – an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) record. Last season, she set the OCAA single-season mark with 28 goals.

“Tiffany is a really special player and the majority of attacking play is played through her,” said Marlene Ford, CCAA Women’s Soccer Convenor. “She shows such great composure on the field.”

Johnson has a dynamic shot and is tough to defend. The Cambrian captain leads by example and encourages her teammates. Johnson didn’t receive a single yellow card this season.

She also assists the Cambrian Athletic Association to garner support for non-varsity initiatives such as the residence move-in and Bell Let’s Talk Day.

Other nominees for the CCAA Player of the Year award were Mikayla Hamilton of the Douglas Royals (PACWEST), Megan Loyns of the NAIT Ooks (ACAC), Ariane Routhier of the Garneau Élans (RSEQ) and Shanice Maxwell of the Dalhousie Rams (ACAA).

CCAA Player of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA National Championship Awards Banquet.
