Royals returning to Women’s Soccer Nationals, as hosts

Douglas College has been approved to host the 2018 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship.

The bid was approved today in Abbotsford, BC, at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association annual general meeting.

The Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) institution will host the event Nov. 7-10, 2018 in Coquitlam, BC.

“The CCAA is excited to have Douglas College step up as host in 2018,” said Marlene Ford, CCAA Women’s Soccer Convenor. “We are looking forward to seeing the top eight collegiate teams in Canada compete for a gold medal in British Columbia.”

Douglas has a rich and successful history as a member institution of PACWEST and CCAA. With 41 national and 54 provincial championships, the institution continues to provide exceptional athletic opportunities to enhance the overall educational experience of their students.

The Royals’ commitment to post‐secondary athletics is demonstrated in a continual desire and pursuit to host both national and provincial championships. Douglas hosted successful CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championships in 2003 and 2012. The Royals also recently hosted the 2016 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship.

Championship games will be played at Percy Perry Stadium, which is located in Town Centre Park. The stadium features a FIFA regulation sized lit artificial turf field with a seating capacity of 1,600. Douglas’ Coquitlam campus is located adjacent to the Town Centre Park.

In recent seasons, the Royals women’s soccer team has become a perennial contender in the PACWEST. Douglas earned berths to the 2015 and 2016 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championships. The Royals captured their first ever CCAA medal (bronze) in 2016 at Collège Ahuntsic in Montreal, QC.

The 2017 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship will be hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus and University of King’s College in Nova Scotia, Nov. 8-11.
