Rock Picard of the Titans de Limoilou has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year.
He received the award this evening at the 2018 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship banquet, hosted by Camosun College in Victoria, BC.
“The Titans had a terrific season in RSEQ league play and non-conference play that included several tournament wins,” said David Munro, CCAA VP Sport Development. “They are one of the elite teams in the CCAA and Picard is a big reason for this.”
The Titans cruised to a 14-2 record and first-place finish in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ). Limoilou was victorious at the Coupe de l’Est tournament, went undefeated at a Senior A tournament in Moncton, NB as well as at the Omnium Griffons tournament.
Limoilou has captured three consecutive silver medals at the CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championships.
Picard, who was also named CCAA Coach of the Year in 2006, supervises mandatory periods of study for each of his student-athletes to ensure they are on the road to academic success.
Picard is also an assistant coach with the Élite du Quebec team and is responsible for a sport-studies program at the secondary school level.
“Rock represents everything the CCAA is looking for in a coach – high level coaching certification training, a tremendous role model to his players, a strong focus on both athletics and academics and an individual who creates desired accountability for his student-athletes,” said Munro.
CCAA Coach of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

Denguessi guided his emerging team to a nine-win improvement as the Blues posted a 19-5 record and second-place finish in the PACWEST. He has helped establish a confident, winning culture at Capilano, where he gives considerable focus to the mental side of the game. Denguessi, who won a CCAA National Championship in 2011 with the Columbia Bearcats, is a former setter for the Cameroonian National team. He also works at Blues summer volleyball camps. |
Mullan led Briercrest to a 16-8 record and tie for second place in the ACAC South Division. The two-time ACAC Coach of the Year has transformed the Clippers into perennial playoff contenders in the conference. Mullan is also the Athletic Director at Briercrest and provides great support to all his student athletes. He is also heavily involved with youth volleyball camps at the institution as well as around the province. |
May guided George Brown to a 13-5 record and second-place finish in the OCAA East Division. The Huskies were also victorious at the Durham College Adidas Cup. Three student-athletes from George Brown were named OCAA All-Stars. May has done a phenomenal job of developing his players off the court as well. He is a member of the Canadian National Beach Volleyball team. |
Ryan led the Hurricanes to the top of the ACAA standings with a 13-2 record. He is actively involved in the academic and personal development of his student-athletes and pushes his players to succeed in the classroom, community as well as on the court. Ryan also referees and is committed to the provincial volleyball officials’ association in a leadership role. He has devoted many years to developing players and officials. |
