2018 CCAA Men’s Volleyball All-Canadians

Simon Friesen

Braydon Brouwer

Capilano Blues

VIU Mariners

The PACWEST Player of the Year led Capilano to a 19-5 record and second-place finish in the conference. Friesen, a third-year setter, was second in the PACWEST with 10.14 assists per set and established himself as the top all-around player in the conference. The Blues captain was responsible for the team’s successful turnaround season through his masterful handling of the team’s offensive play. Friesen also possesses an excellent defensive game and strong serve.

Brouwer led the Mariners to a 20-4 record and first overall finish in the PACWEST. A two-time CCAA All-Canadian, he finished second in the conference with 4.4 points per set and third with 3.61 kills per set. Brouwer is simply a class act and his quiet on-court demeanor brings a calming confidence to the Mariners, even during intense moments. He has a respect and passion for the game that is infectious to his teammates.

Trent Mounter

NAIT Ooks

The ACAC Player of the Year led SAIT to a 20-4 record and first-place finish in the ACAC South Division. Mounter led the conference with 4.6 points per set and 3.62 kills per set and was also first with 49 service aces. The third-year student-athlete was part of SAIT’s Trojan Outreach Program this season. Mounter serves as SAIT’s captain and volunteers throughout the season at volleyball clinics and as a coach during summer camps.

Burkart led the Ooks to a second-place finish in the ACAC North Division with a 17-7 record. The third-year right side ranked first in the ACAC North Division with 3.9 points per set and 3.24 kills per set. Burkart is an easy-going and passionate player who works to get better every day. He brings an enthusiasm and energy to training and competition that leaves his teammates feeling confident and motivated.

Fanshawe Falcons

Georgian Grizzlies

The OCAA Player of the Year led Fanshawe to its first-ever perfect season. The Falcons went 18-0 to finish atop the OCAA West Division standings. Jordan, a third-year outside, led the conference with 4.8 points per set and was second with 3.94 kills per set. He also led all OCAA players with a .415 hitting percentage. Jordan quietly leads by example and is an excellent student at Fanshawe.

Gray led the Grizzlies to a 17-1 record and first-place finish in the OCAA East Division. The third-year setter led the conference with 10.05 assists per set. Gray, now a two-time CCAA All-Canadian, effectively plays any position on the court and also led his team in service aces. The Grizzly veteran has a positive and hard-working attitude and has led his team to the OCAA Championships in each of his three seasons at Georgian.

Mathieu Lassonde

Géants de Saint-Jean

Titans de Limoilou

Lassonde led the RSEQ with 0.96 blocks per set and ranked fifth overall with 3.41 points per set. The third-year centre led the Géants to a 9-7 record and tie for second place in the RSEQ. Lassonde, who was selected to play for the Canadian National Junior team last summer, demonstrated strong leadership at Saint-Jean this season. He is an excellent student-athlete and a positive influence on his teammates.

The RSEQ Player of the Year once again led Limoilou to a first-place finish in the conference with a 14-2 record. Martin, a fourth-year setter, led the RSEQ with 28 service aces. He was a member of the Élite du Quebec team that won a bronze medal at the AMB Volleyball Cup in Portugal. Ludovic excels in the classroom despite a rigorous training schedule and also coaches at the high school level.

Holland Hurricanes

Butler was named the ACAA Player of the Year after leading Holland to a 13-2 record and first-place finish in the conference. The fourth-year power led the ACAA with 3.74 kills per set and 4.4 points per set. Butler has worked tirelessly in the last year to raise his game and become a dominant player in the ACAA. He is actively involved in his community in a variety of ways, including officiating and broadcasting.

Veitch led the Hurricanes to a second straight first overall finish in the ACAA. The third-year power led the conference with 32 service aces and ranked among the Top 5 in points per set, kills per set and digs per set. The CCAA Academic All-Canadian is a dedicated and passionate student-athlete. Veitch is a true gentleman and a tremendous teammate with a work ethic and fair-play philosophy that are second to none.
