2018 MSC: Day One Recap from PEI

MATCH 1: NAIT Ooks 7, St. Thomas Tommies 0

Spectators gathered to watch the opening game of the CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall, PEI. 

The ACAC champions, NAIT Ooks (Edmonton, AB), defeated the St. Thomas Tommies (Fredericton, NB) by the score of 7-0. 

The Ooks stormed out to an early lead, stretching it to 4-0 at halftime.  They tacked on three more in the second half to cruise to the victory.

David Doe was named the Player of the Game for the NAIT Ooks, while John Hunter was recognized for the Tommies

MATCH 2: Humber Hawks 2*, Langara Falcons 1  (*PKs)

Both the Humber Hawks (Etobicoke, Ontario) and the Langara Falcons (Vancouver, British Columbia) battled in a close match on Wednesday in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island.

The Hawks jumped out to a lead just before the halftime whistle blew when they found the back of the net in the 42’.

The Falcons would not surrender and eventually tied the game at 1-1 in the second half. The game would end in a tie at full-time, sending the match to penalty kicks.

After a lengthy battle in penalty-kicks, the Hawks outlasted the Falcons to earn the victory.

Karman Singh was the Player of the Game for the Hawks, while Kevin Monk was chosen for the Langara Falcons.

MATCH 3: Indiens d'Ahuntsic 3, Holland Hurricanes 0

The hosts from Holland College started the tournament with a tough-test when they took on the RSEQ champions, the Indiens du Collège Ahuntsic. The Indiens took the victory by a score of 3-0.

Even pressure throughout by both teams entertained the large crowd on hand at the Terry Fox Sports Complex as the Indiens chipped away to their 3-0 victory.

Quentin Bourgeais was named the Player of the Game for the Indiens while Bobby Gamba was the recipient for the Hurricanes.

MATCH 4: Sheridan Bruins 2, Capilano Blues 0

The final match of the day featured the Sheridan Bruins (Oakville, Ontario) taking on the Capilano Blues (North Vancouver, British Columbia).

A cool, crisp PEI night was the scene as the Sheridan Bruins jumped ahead of the Blues late in the first half.

With the Blues pressing, the Bruins secured the victory with a goal in the 87’ to pick up the win in an intense match featuring two passionate teams.

The Players of the Game in the match were Eric Swanson (Capilano Blues) and Manuel Morgado (Sheridan Bruins).
