Lochard named CCAA Player of the Year

Alix Lochard of the Nomades de Montmorency has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Year.

He received the award this evening at the 2018 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship banquet, hosted by Collège Montmorency in Laval, QC.

“Alix is a physically gifted performer and he consistently puts up solid numbers for Montmorency,” said Jeff Harris, CCAA Men’s Basketball Convenor. “He produces in big moments – as evidenced by being named most valuable player at the RSEQ Championships.”

Lochard dropped 25 points in Montmorency’s thrilling 78-77 victory over the Dynamiques de Brébeuf in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) final.

He led the defending CCAA National Champion Nomades to a 13-3 record and second-place finish in the regular season. The two-time CCAA All-Canadian led the conference with 22.5 points per game. He also led the RSEQ with 11.5 rebounds per contest.

The third-year forward shot an outstanding 67.1% (139-for-207) from the field.

Lochard’s importance to Montmorency is crucial – the Nomades captain was out of the lineup due to injury in two of the team’s three losses this season. He was also named MVP at the Dawson Fall Classic.

“Alix is a force of nature with outstanding hands and fluid footwork,” said Duane John, Montmorency’s Athletics & Community Coordinator. “He has great timing and excels in rebounding and in transition.”

Last March, Lochard was named a first-team CCAA All-Star as he led the Nomades to their third CCAA Men’s Basketball title in Charlottetown, PE.

“He’s been the difference maker in the turnaround of our program since joining the team in 2016,” said John, also the Chair of the 2018 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship at Montmorency.

“Alix represents the values of ethics, effort and commitment,” he said.

CCAA Player of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

Other nominees for the CCAA Player of the Year award were Usama Zaid of the VIU Mariners (PACWEST), Kenny Johnson of the GPRC Wolves (ACAC), Rayvon Higdon of the Redeemer Royals (OCAA) and Thomas LeGallais of the Mount Allison Mounties (ACAA).
