Royals to clash with Sting in CCAA final

Game 5: Dynamiques de Brebeuf 97, Lakeland Rustlers 63

In front of an enthusiastic crowd of students that came to enjoy the show, the Rustlers took the lead in the first minutes of the game, but the Dynamiques caught and passed them to lead 14-17 by the end of the quarter. Things heated up early in the second, as the Dynamiques padded their lead to 46-29, led by William Boyer-Richard’s sharp shooting.

After increasing their lead in the third, the Dynamiques kept up their momentum in the fourth, giving away few chances to Lakeland. Final score: Dynamiques 97 – Rustlers 63. 

Player of the game for the Rustlers was Paul Smith-Profit with 15 points and 2 rebounds, while Guillaume Pépin earned the honours for the Dynamiques with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Game 6: SAIT Trojans 86, Humber Hawks 83

The second game of the day featured Calgary’s SAIT Trojans and Toronto’s Humber Hawks. The teams were tied 23-23 after a tightly contested first quarter, which featured a 9-point run by Trojans’ Charlie Conner. 

The Trojans took the lead 52-46 in the second, thanks in part to a few 3-pointers at the end of the quarter by Charlie Conner.

The third quarter was hard-fought, with lots of scoring on both sides, but the Trojans held on to their lead 73-67 despite solid offensive runs by the Hawks. 

In the final quarter, the Hawks came back within 1 point with less than a minute to go, but the Trojans closed the door 86-83.  

Murphy Beya finished the game with 24 points and 6 rebounds, and was named player of the game for the Trojans. Kenny Ejim had 22 points and 2 rebounds to earn the award for the Hawks.

Game 7: Seneca Sting 90, Holland Hurricanes 86

The winners of the first games of Day 1 faced off in an intense, high-scoring battle where neither team ever got much of a lead. The Hurricanes ended the first quarter with a slight lead (28-25). 

A fast and physical third quarter left Holland leading 66-67 into the fourth, after both teams traded the lead back and forth. With a spot in the gold medal game at stake, both teams stepped up their game in the final quarter.

The Sting tightened up their defence and took the lead a few minutes later. The players from PEI didn’t let up and came back to within a point a few minutes from the end.

The Sting ultimately prevailed with a final score of 90-86.

Players of the Game were Khalil Miller for the Sting (20 points, 11 rebounds), and Chase Bowden for the Hurricanes (26 points and 8 rebounds).

Game 8: Douglas Royals 93, Nomades de Montmorency 87

The last game of Day 2 of the National Championship featured the host Montmorency Nomades of Laval take on New Westminster’s Douglas Royals. The Nomades took the lead 26-15 in the first quarter, with a 9-point contribution by Alix Lochard. 

Montmorency kept the momentum going in the second with several three-pointers and impressive offensive streaks, including an 8-point contribution by Elie Karojo. Despite repeated attacks by the Royals, the quarter ended with the home team leading 45-34. 

Things heated up early in the third with attacks on both sides, including several offensive streaks by the Royals. Led by four 3-pointers by Josiah Mastandrea, the Royals took the lead 65-60. 

The Royals kept their offensive streak going in a hard-fought fourth quarter. The Nomades tried to close the 7-point gap, but despite their repeated attacks, the Royals held on to their lead and took the win 93-87. 

Kameron Johnson was named player of the game for the Royals, with 33 points and 5 rebounds. Alix Lochard earned the award for the Nomades with 26 points and 6 rebounds.
