The Lions roar to early leads

The 2019 CCAA Golf National Championship presented by PING got underway at the Continental Golf Club under a beautiful blue sky and a backdrop of fall colors.

The Champlain St. Lawrence Lions (RSEQ) men’s team ended the first round of play in the lead, with a combined score of 302 (12-over par). Louis-Alexandre Jobin-Colgan led the Lions team with a personal round of 1-under par. The defending champions, the Boomerang d’André-Laurendeau (RSEQ) are currently in second with a combined score of 302 (+14), followed by the St. Lawrence Vikings (OCAA) in third place at 305 (17-over par).

Jobin-Colgan’s score of 71, was the low round for the day, leaving him as the men’s individual leader heading into round two. He is followed closely by his teammate Guillaume Dubois and Olivier Ménard of the Boomerang who finished the day at even par.

On the women’s side, the Champlain St. Lawrence Lions are also leading the field with a combined 146 (+2) thanks to strong performances by Élizabeth Labbé and Anne-Sophie Bélanger. The Boomerang d’Andre-Laurendeau are second at +10, followed by the Medicine Hat Rattlers at +22.

Individually, Emily Romancew’s strong performance at the 2018 Championship has carried over to this year as she finished day one at 3-under par. Élizabeth Labbé shot an even-par 72, followed by teammate Anne-Sophie Bélanger and Camille Lapierre-Ouellet from the Boomerang, each with scores of 74 (+2).

The student-athletes with all be back on the course tomorrow morning for second round action.
